Ethernet connected but no internet connection

Hello.
Currently I haveing strange problems with my eth. adapter (USB -> eth). When I connect it (no matter wether eth cable is connected to eth adapter) I don't get any internet connection, nor I even get an IP addr.
Here is the output from ifconfig:

The eth interface is: enp4s0f3u2u4
The wifi interface is: wlp1s0

Also strange is, that when I connect the usb adapter not only on my laptop the wifi disconnects, but also all wifi connections from my phone which lays next to the adapter are disappearing (until I remove the adapter).

What I have tried

I tried pinging google.com and 8.8.8.8 - both failed. So it isn't an DNS issue I guess (I mean - how should it without even a private IP addr. Also /etc/resolv.conf is empty). I tried to disable my wifi interface before connecting the usb adapter. It also didn't make any difference. Also worth to mention is, that on the same laptop everything is working fine under Windows (laptop is dualboot). For sure I tried to reboot the device. I've restarted NetworkManager - also no difference. I tried next to the zen kernel the mainline kernel - also no difference.

Just to re-mention it: All the problems (wifi disconnects and disappears) also occur, when the adapter is connected to the laptop, but the lan cable isn't connected to the adapter

Where the problem maybe could be

Could be, that I messed up some config files. But I am not sure.

Output garuda-inxi

Have you tested any alternate boot disks? Which ones?

Have you tested your adapter on any alternate Garuda DE?

Has this adapter worked in the past with any Linux distro? (please provide details).

Please test your adapter on an Ubuntu live boot disk.

Please provide an inxi -naz from the Ubuntu live environment if this adapter is actually working there.

Please do not have other network adapters connected to your system when running diagnostic commands. Run the diagnostic commands, and then connect any wifi adapter's or phone tethering afterwards for an internet connection. If your wifi adapter is internal, then temporarily disable it in your bios to perform troubleshooting tests.

Have you made any modifications to the standard network configuration?

:face_with_raised_eyebrow: What kind of adapter is this? Can you identify the brand or model?

Don’t forget to boot to Windows, go to your power management settings, and disable Windows quick boot (or whatever it is called). This option is enabled by default and will prevent other systems from being properly able to access certain hardware resources, including the network card.

If possible, also turn off any wifi power saving features in the device manager's advanced properties for the USB Ethernet adapter.

usb adapter should be this one: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Aluminium-Gigabit-Ethernet-Chromebook-Ultrabooks/dp/B09BVG5TY9/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=usb+hub+ethernet&link_code=qs&qid=1650123017&sourceid=Mozilla-search&sr=8-3

quick boot is already disabled

First Amazon review:

I then connected the device to a self-powered USB 3.0 hub. The USB hub, in turn, was connected to the USB 3.0 port on the laptop where the USB 3.0 splitter and Ethernet adapter did not work before.

Perhaps this unit is simply underpowered.

Have you tested any alternate boot disks? Which ones?

it’s only one SSD there to use

Have you tested your adapter on any alternate Garuda DE?

No. And I have no idea how I would switch it without reinstalling Garuda (what I really don’t want to do)

Has this adapter worked in the past with any Linux distro? (please provide details).

Actually on this one the adapter had worked already. Also the mentioned problems weren’t there if I remember right. Right now I am in a different network then usual. Don’t know if the problem is maybe there.

Please test your adapter on an Ubuntu live boot disk.
Please provide an inxi -naz from the Ubuntu live environment if this adapter is actually working there.

I will try it in about a week. Don’t have a USB stick next to me right now.

Have you installed and tested alternate kernels yet? If not please test at least 3 alternate kernels starting with the lts and linux-mainline kernels.

I’ve tried mainline - also don’t work

Have you made any modifications to the standard network configuration?

What would be the files for that? I know that I have changed https_proxy some time ago. But I forgot which file that was.

In case you missed it see my post above that I made seconds before you. That sounds like it may be your issue.

But why is it working on Windows? (wifi not disconnecting, ethernet works)
Edit:
Without any usb devices connected, eth should work anyways, shouldn't it?

I've heard this question more times than I can count. The answer is Linux is not Windows. Some hardware will work on Windows, but will not with Linux.

Booting an Ubuntu live disk will tell us a lot as to the device's Linux compatibility.

Ok. I will test it in about a week, or earlier if I got a USB drive somewhere. Are there any configs which could be messed up where I could look mean while?

It didn’t for the reviewer on Amazon that I posted and I only read one review.

I really think this is a hardware issue rather than a config issue.

If your wifi is disconnecting search your adapter chip on the forum. I have posted fixes for your card recently.

Ok. I also tried to disable the eth adapter and just tried to connect to wifi. This also didn't work. But here I have absolutely no idea why wifi is not working (it is enabled, but no signals are be shown) when eth is disabled

If your wifi is disconnecting search your adapter chip on the forum. I have posted fixes for your card recently.

I will take a look

See:

Please do not start asking troubleshooting questions about your wifi on this thread. Open a separate thread for your wifi issues if you need assistance. One thread for each separate issue is always best.
