Error sparse file not allowed on boot right after grub

the issue im having is that right after the grub bootloader screen in the top left corner of my screen it says

"Error: sparse file not allowed.
Loading Linux linux-zen …
Loading initial ramdisk …

Press any key to continue …"

The system still boots fine after that so its really more of an anoyance then an issue but still something id like to fix

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply @SGS
I looked at the forum you sent and it suggests moving /boot to the ext4 file system instead of the btrfs file system. But I’m not sure how to do that. Ill have to do a bit more digging.

p.s
i had spent a fair bit of time looking through the garuda forms but hadn’t thought to check other distros. I’m still very much a beginner in the linux world

do you have a mobile phone with camera?

if you start your computer and the Grub Boot Menu comes up can you press the e button and take a picture of this configuration? then press esc to get back to boot menu and start normally to post the pics if you can.thx

May there is something wrong?

ive did just for fun delete my echos and if is start this boot entries it dont show me even loading linux-zen or loading ramdisk an goes directly to the login screen(onlt short message overdrive is enabled )

Just check and edit

  1. Edit /etc/default/grub. Change the line:
GRUB_DEFAULT=saved

Do something like the following, which will default to booting the first GRUB menu entry.

GRUB_DEFAULT=0
GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=false

then

sudo update-grub

same like

sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

in short.

My /etc/default/grub

# GRUB boot loader configuration

Did you use grub-customizer or something, did you change anything?

Maybe you overread it.

This cryptic but mostly-harmless error message arises from GRUB not supporting writes to /boot/grub2/grubenv on a btrfs filesystem. The /boot/grub2/grubenv file is used to store and recall state information about which kernel you booted last and whether the kernel booted successfully. You can safely ignore the error message if you don’t need those features. If you would like to get rid of the error message completely you can either …
Just ignore the 2 :smiley:
You can try and edit with the garuda-boot-options app too IIRC :wink:

Thanks for the help, editing that grub file the way you suggested got rid of the error message so we are all good to go. It was the 2 that was throwing me off in the fedora fourm post so thanks for the clarification
