As @filo mentioned, was the error in the opening post from the update command or not?
Without an inxi -Faz output, we can only guess what is the last time you updated.

Now, first of all, reboot (you had a kernel update).
Then maybe try to clear your pacman cache with sudo pacman -Scc and see if the issue persists.

I took the liberty to mark the Solution where I think it was more appropriate..
In my opinion clearing the chace was the key point, since there was probably something wrong there, maybe some leftover from a previous partial attempt.

Good point, hard to do 
I used a generic "error: no servers configured for repository", since the "extra" was only due to the fact that mariadb is in that repository, but the problem could occur in other cases.
