Epic Games Launcher No Longer Working

The epic games launcher (installed using wine) previously worked before I updated it after not using it for ages, but now after reinstalling the launcher to update it (didn’t figure out any other way to do it).

When I open the launcher it runs, initializing and then verifying files, all within a second before disappearing.

It remains open in the background and as long as it does I can’t reopen it. It has to be sniped using the system monitors kill signal.

Everywhere I tried looking just isnt the same problem, and full of answers just being to use the heroic games launcher and I would just use this heroic games launcher but i’m trying to use unreal engine and the heroic games launcher just sends me to the download page for the epic games launcher because it says the epic games launcher is required.

I was able to install unreal engine without the launcher using the epic games instructional website on how to install it on linux, but then my specific problem becomes that I need to use the epic games launcher to install plugins?

https://dev.epicgames.com/documentation/en-us/unreal-engine/linux-development-quickstart-for-unreal-engine

I either need the epic games launcher to work again, or another way to install plugins to unreal engine.

Hmm did you try to run it via Bottles?

Usually I run 3rd party launchers like GoG using Bottles instead of directly wine.

Just post garuda-inxi, not fastfetch.

From template

  • After rebooting, post the FULL output of garuda-inxi in the body of the post (not linked externally, or collapsed with the “hide details” feature)
  • Format terminal output (including your garuda-inxi) as a code block by clicking the preformatted text button (</>) , or put three tildes (~) above and below the text

Did I do it right?

I just tried installing it with bottles, but i honestly don’t know if its not letting me or if its a skill issue on my part. First i tried creating a new bottle, but it wouldn’t let me make a new bottle, or even click most of the buttons. Then I tried opening the epic games installer with bottles by right clicking on the installer which just led me to create a new bottle, making me run into the same issue.

I also just tried installing with lutris, which did install it, but trying to launch it through lutris just gives me the same problem of only staying open for a few seconds, but this time I don’t need to snipe it to try opening it again. Is the problem the epic games launcher update? can I install an older version? how would I do that?

Tried it in lutris and could start it with setting wine to TKG Staging in the start options of Epic. If not present you need to install it via paru in terminal.
paru -S wine-tkg-staging-bin
