Thank you for the reply. I did an update since your post. This problem persisted for days after rebooting many times since. I finally went into a settings file and disabled the timeout functions completely, even though they are still in the GUI. I don’t need them.

Similar topic: Powerdevil error & Plasma desktop freeze

In my linked thread, journalctl shows Powerdevil error. Maybe you have similar problem?

If you managed to make it work with changing config files then that’s fine too.
