Edit Enviroment variables

I need to add two things to my enviroment. This is something I have not had to do yet. I need add a path, so a directory is added and I need to do the following.

    • edit the /etc/environment file
    • sudo nano /etc/environment
    • add this: WEBKIT_DISABLE_DMABUF_RENDERER=1
    • save the file
    • log out of your session (or reboot)

I am looking for Syntax for line 3 there. Does it start with Key=xxxxx or ENV=*** or do I just add the line?

So you want to use some variable from someone who tells you use nano, Garuda has micro preinstalled and doesn’t tell you how to do it?
Maybe my search on the internet will help, see how it was done in the corresponding files.

printenv

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Environment_variables

Thank you, ill give it a read. I don’t use nano so don’t care, just need to add line 3 to see if it fixes an appimage issue from creality, they can’t seem to build appimage that works with Arch. Im pretty much a vi user, as I cut my teeth on it on HP/UX.

No vi needed

sudo sh -c "echo 'WEBKIT_DISABLE_DMABUF_RENDERER=1' >> /etc/environment"

In /etc/environment you just add the line. It is not a script, it is a special config file specifically for reading these environment variables, so you don’t need to add export or anything like that.

After you add the variable, log out and log back in, then use echo to test that the variable is set.

echo $WEBKIT_DISABLE_DMABUF_RENDERER

Thank you, Darn it guess I have to use a windows VM for now. Orca 2.2 and Creality Print seem to hate Wayland and Arch. Could be nvidia, but it runs fine on laptop with Nvidia and Mint.

This thread sounds like an XY problem. What is the actual issue you need help with? Describe what is happening, and what you have tried so far to fix it.
