Dragonized No Sound on Laptop

Just installed Dragonized on my laptop and having issues getting sound out of the speakers . The VU meters move like it thinks its playing sound but nothing comes out. I have tried reinstalling pipe-wire. No sound from USB thumb-drive either. Any tips on what to check would be greatly appreciated.

Ran pavcontrol, and some other utilities from searching, nothing muted, card is selected. Testing right and left speaker produce no sound.

Install alsa-utils (a terminal app), and use alsamixer to unmute the muted channels

Thank you, I have already tried that. Unless I missing something, which I have been known not to find the mustard bottle right in front of the refrigerator ;-).

I would be more concerned about samba failing.

Anyway, you’ve got a nice machine, but try this…

  1. Check for BIOS updates
  2. Install the LTS kernel & headers
  3. Reboot into the LTS kernel

Will do, just wiped it and reinstalled, same thing. VU meters move but no sound out of the speakers. Bios is up to date, ill try the lts kernel next.

Not sure on Samba, but don’t use it much anyway on my laptop.

Thanks for the advice. I had sound a month back, so its really odd.

What did you do different…

before you did this?

Google the phrase containing; “…doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results,” then stop it.

installed open office / Libre, usually updates end of every week or so. I also had initially installed a iso older than one on the downloads page.

I cannot hit a moving target.

Perhaps someone else?

LTS didn’t help, but thank you. I am downloading an older iso, early 2023 and see what happens. If it works, ill grab configs / .dotfiles. Got me very odd, sound works under Manjaro, Mint, and Winblowz.

Have you tried pressing F6 to switch to another sound card?

I have seen sometimes the incorrect sound card is in use for whatever reason.

Another consideration would be to install PulseAudio Volume Control:

sudo pacman -S pavucontrol

With pavucontrol you can change output devices (AlsaMixer lets you adjust their volume, but not switch from one to the other). If you have the wrong device selected, that could explain why you are not hearing the sound that is apparently playing somewhere.

So not sure what to check or what is set. But I just booted off an arcolinuxd iso and audio is working perfect. If I could install this and somehow then covert it to Dragonized that would be awesome.
