Dolphin thumbnails not loading anymore

I’ve had my garuda Dragonized installation since February 2025.
But since May, I’ve noticed that my thumbnails in Dolphin don’t show anymore.

I’ve done following steps:

  1. deleted ~/.cache/thumbnails

  2. Checked the dolphin settings. They say "preview for every file of any size

  3. Checked multiple system packages, including kio

Then I noticed, when I open dolphin as root (right click, admin actions, open in dolphin), a new window of dolphin opens. The themes are missing, it’s white and default, but the icons are back.
So somehow my user config is corrupt? But I checked the setting in dolphin with my user and those seem correct. What am I missing?

Would be really helpful if someone knows what to do.

Thank you and best regards
Ven

Welcome aboard. Have you done a reboot. On Wednesday I had the icons disappear and while I was trying to figure it out a few things started acting up finally making me have to power off the system. All has been fine since. I suggest a reboot to see what you get. Please also add your garuda-inxi to your first post.

Thank you. I’ve had this problem for many weeks now, so I did many reboots. And I’ve added my inxi.

Best regards

Try creating a new user, log in as them, and see if the thumbnails show up in Dolphin. If they do, check for differences in the dotfiles of the two users. Are ~/.config/dolphinrc and ~/.config/kdeglobals the same (between the two users), for example?

I’ve created a new user over the kde settings (useradd won’t apply any themes).

Dolphin thumbnails are working there. Then I’ve compared and even replaced ~/.config/kdeglobals and ~/.config/dolphinrc.

I’ve cleared the file index database and restarted indexing again-

Something’s wrong with my user then, but I dpn’t know what

I don’t know either…but KDE has always had a habit of having config files kinda scattered everywhere

well mine started working again, I’m guessing a package update fixed it.

If, you should use Garuda Settings Manager.

and

pls bios update

Thank you for the suggestion, I updated my bios just two weeks ago, it’s now at version 3003 with date 05/05/2025.

But that didn’t fix it.

The previews started working for a day, and then stopped working again.

And as it only affects my user, I think it’s a user-specific problem, not a system-problem
