Just curious if anyone knows if there is a linux-znver5 kernel or if anyone has heard of one in the works. Upgrading from 5800x to a 9800x3d in the next week and have been happy with the znver3 kernel so wasnt sure if one was available yet for znver5. I do know that 6.12+ is needed for the 9800x3d from what I understand.
I don’t think there is one (yet).
The previous maintainer of all linux-amd* kernels left a while back and ever since some others took over but don’t keep it updated as precisely and thoroughly as the previous one. Many kernel CONFIGs are missing completely from the corresponding znver* config.x86_64
files.
As far as I understood, the mainline linux-amd (which Garuda offers part of its Garuda Setup Assistant even though it’s only at 6.10.5!) will work with Zen5, but won’t take advantage of its specific features.
You might get a better chance with one of those:
1- CachyOS kernel optimizations, which Garuda offers part of its Garuda Setup Assistant
2- Understanding Zen5’s configs and compiling your own kernel with your custom configs
Yeah I noticed the maintainer left or switched around the same time the name of the znver3 kernel slightly changed which caused updates to the kernel to stop until you install the new named one. Once I get the new rig built ill play around and do some testing to find a suitable kernel. I just know that 6.12+ is needed for it to take advantage of some of the features.
I know 6.10 doesn’t make sense for Zen5
I might have been slightly wrong. It looks like 6.12+ is only needed for AMD Zen 5 CPU power reporting according to Phoronix. Either way I plan on using 6.12
