:: installing kvantum (1.0.10-2) breaks dependency 'kvantum-qt5' required by garuda-mate-settings

I tried

sudo pacman -R kvantum-qt5
error: target not found: kvantum-qt5
 -> exit status 1

What do I do? Using

yay -S kvantum-qt5

returns a file not found error.

How about

sudo pacman -Rdd garuda-mate-settings

then

garuda-update

since garuda-mate-settings is just a pkgbuild file used to create dependencies to bundle packages and make installing them easier you can forcefully remove it and still have all it’s installed “dependencies” available in your system and not be affected in anyway.

Or, you can wait it out until nico or whoever maintains this meta package updates its dependencies since kvantum-qt5 has been renamed in the repos so you won’t find it with that name anymore.

Thanks. That did it. I appreciate the rapid reply.

Be aware that as KDE transitions from Plasma 5 to Plasma 6, Arch Linux’ practice during such a major change is that package names may/will be incrementally change to denote their status in their appropriate repositories. Further, there will be a mix of the two, and applications, for at least a year following.

Plasma 4 to 5 was a mess. Plasma 3 to 4 was a mess…you get the picture. Smart :monkey: 's will be transitioning from KDE Plasma to GNOME Shell.

EDIT: I finally found the source and the correct nomenclature. The Arch Forums:

KDE is close to releasing new versions of their components based on QT 6 .
During the transition period from 5 to 6 (could be longer then a year) we’ll have a mix of 5 and 6 .

The convention on archlinux for such transitions is to give the ‘older’ version a suffix and let the version without a suffix become the latest version.

All kde 5 components in the repos are currently renamed to prepare for the transition . KDE is highly modular, so there could be dozens of components installed on your system. (mine had around 30 and that’s low for KDE)

Done! This will no longer occur with updated package databases.
