Ctrl + Space not working as expected

Hi everyone

I’ve installed a new i3wm ISO and set it up. It was working as expected but, one day I realized that I can’t enter the Alacritty’s VI mode anymore.

And I found that even in games if I try to hold Ctrl and then press Space, my character doesn’t jump even thought they used to jump before.

I looked through my i3 config to see if I have any shortcuts assigned to it but I couldn’t find anything. I even commented out the whole config to see if the config was the problem but it wasn’t.

I also noticed that if I press Ctrl + Space, the window kinda gets unfocused it seems. As if I’m not on that window anymore. For example if I’m focusing on the URL bar in FireFox and I press Ctrl + Space it’ll look like this:

Same for my terminal:

This prevents me from using a lot of shortcuts and gives me a lot of trouble in games as well :frowning:

Here’s my i3 config:

# i3 config file (v4)
# Please see http://i3wm.org/docs/userguide.html for a complete reference!

set $alt Mod1

Did older snapshots work you like?
Which applications were updated after which this behavior occurred?

This shortcut should have nothing to do with i3wm.

This person is trying to use a similar grp:win_space_toggle function, but has found that the layout change is being triggered sometimes with other keys besides “Win”–including Shift and Ctrl:

Is it possible the keyboard layout is being toggled when you are doing those jumps and stuff?

I check, the keyboard layout doesn’t change.

Is it possible that my keyboard model is the problem?

I have my keyboard model set to XKBMODEL=pc104. Is there another good default I can try for laptops?

I’ve tried pc105 and pc104.

Sorry, what is the VI mode?

VI mode is a mode that kinda lets you move around in the terminal as if you were in vim and lets you select and copy things in the terminal.

I don’t really notice when it started, TBH. I can’t add much in this regard, but if you guys have any guesses, I’ll try them.

Otherwise, Thanks!
