Constant problems updating

every time i try to install new software or update i have to fight with linux. last time it was keyring issues this time its this. garuda is so cool and futuristic looking i dont want to leave it behind but i cant be fighting with my os every time i want to update or install software.

im posting for help with this issue however any advice in general would be appreciated. because garuda has been so hard to keep running right it makes me wonder if im doing things wrong.

see i have tried updating using and installing software from octopi and pamac as well as
konsole via garuda-update and every time i have to spend hours figuring it out scouring forums . i try not to bother anyone and handle my own issues but my patience runs thin...i dont wanna leave garuda but i cant keep doing this...

i can backup my data and redo the entire operating system from scratch faster than i can get updates to work due to constant keyring issues and package conflicts is there a best practices for installing software and updates so i dont have to kungfu linux into shape a few times a week just to keep it up to date and install new software.

things are so bad im considering retrograding to windows server 2k3 on whatever
most recent system i can manage to get to run it.

removed the kdeplasma addons then thunderbird was having issued as well so i uninstalled it cause i dont use it and then the updates worked . ill get back to you all and let you know if this machine survives reboot ir if i had to boot from usb3 mount my nvme and retrieve my data and reinstall..

if this dont work i think i might go back to an enterprise linux. like centos or someting similar.

We recommend to use only the terminal for the installation and the updates and to use these apps only for the search.

The solutions to your problems are actually all here in the forum.

I personally do better with multiple updates per day than others who only do this weekly.

The other day I updated an older computer after 2 months. This led to a “black screen”, through updates in chroot the problem was quickly solved.

If all this is too much work for you, I would also recommend a different OS.

Please post all terminal outputs as you did with garuda-inxi, otherwise you will scroll to death on your smartphone. :wink:

My man, you’re running KDE-git and surprised you’re having issues with breakage? >.>

That was a temporary issue with the mirrors. We’re looking into solving it long term.

This is the way you’re supposed to do it.

I suggest you install a non kde-git version of Garuda for a smoother experience. KDE-git is inherently unstable, especially when combined with non kde-git packages, like you did.

i didnt change it to the git version i thought it was default software, when i installed this garuda install i installed kdenlive and pamac and all was well for months then all of the sudden this install started having problems with themes . the doc wouldnt work right the bar at the top i guess ill call it as task bar also was having issues loadihg ect.

and the probems were random and i hadnt been installing anything or even using this machine, it spends most of its time turned off . i use my imac or my other laptop usualy, because i run studio software on those machines and i dont lnow how to run vst plugins on linux yet.. i have an old digi 002 rack and a focuswrite scarlet linux doesnt support,

anyways i have no idea why i'm running the git version . i think the only weird shit i attempted with this install was to torify the entire operating system, it worked fairly well on kodachi but i freaking dispise ubuntu so i trued to torrify garuda ect, that was a major fail, i dont know if did something wrong if it was soe sort of incompatability issues.. i got it to work but it didnt work well and i habe no idea why,

and also i dont know what the issue was but after i used torify my pc started acting up, like i was on windows and i had a virus, i tried it a few times on clean installs

i had to clean out all my keys and do so much other things to fix that issue, that took me 8 hours to fix. others had had similar problems in the past so i looked it up and it was helpful but there was no fix i could find on a forum . i stumbled my way through it all.

Somewhat pains me to say this, but if you're having such a bad time with it, maybe it's not for you.

This distro does base on Arch and is thereby in many regards a DIY-distro. Finding fixes (sometimes with others, as in this forum, but oftentimes alone as well) is just part of it. If you start the timer how long it takes you that's IMHO the wrong approach.

That being said, that you do have the git-versions installed does point to you having installed the KDE-git-version, as stated by SGS. So you'll probably stumble from error to error you are reluctant or not even able to solve. Meaning that a clean re-install might the right way to go here. Everything else will get quite complicated and requires a willingness to tinkering. It's a great way to learn it, but if you're already annoyed, as stated, maybe it's not for you.

If you decide to reinstall make sure you take a "normal" version, update regularly and you should be good to go.

Garuda-update 3.0.0 was released with support for automatic retries in case of corrupt packages, this should fix this issue once and for all long term.
