What is the easiest way to resolve these?
Compare the both files (. pacnew + pacman.conf) and if the same -->delete .pacnew or rename .pacnew to pacorg. (as backup) Default you need “only” pacman.conf.
do you have a preferred method/tool?
garuda-rani
now is supposed to enumerate through all the .pacnew
files and prompt you to compare and make the appropriate changes. Alternatively, you may use pacdiff -s
in terminal.
Check files with the alias in confg.fish the difference
pacdiff
# Compare .pacnew & .pacsave files
alias pacdiff='sudo -H DIFFPROG=meld pacdiff'
Maybe you must install meld, we are missing your
garuda-inxi
Hello there, I used to be able to merge .pacnew
file through Garuda Rani, by pressing the Start Merging button. However, when I do that now, something flickers but the meld
view of comparing and merging the difference does not show-up, which used to be followed by the prompt that asks if the merging was done.
How can I fix this problem? Why is Start Merging via Garuda Rani is apparently broken, at least for me? Here is my garuda-inxi
output.

Sounds like you may have the same issue as me. When I click the button to start the merge it attempts to open a window that looks like a terminal window, which appears for a split second showing Size: 123 x 52
and then closes.
@Scoobin, correct, something like that is what is happening. Something shows-up for a split second and vanishes immediately. So, do you have any workaround you do to fix to reconcile the pacman file?
I don’t have a fix and I do have meld installed so I can go to the terminal and run pacdiff
and meld pops up.
Has meld improved? It shows the difference much more nice and clearly than last time I managed to do this.

Thank you. For me, pacdiff
does not start meld
, but only when I give (M)erge
it opens up in meld
. Is that what you are also saying?
sudo -H DIFFPROG=meld pacdiff
That is what I needed to do
Thank you. I just did this and about to reboot to see if all is well
󰛓 ❯ pacdiff -s

Yeah that’s right. I didn’t really have a clue what I was doing on the rust files. Oh well
Hello, looks like I do not have a pacdiff-merge
but only pacdiff
under /usr/bin
. Is there something I should be doing to get to what you are suggesting? Here is what I have:
[âś–] ó°›“ ls -al /usr/bin/pacdiff*
.rwxr-xr-x 9.3k root 9 Jun 20:55  /usr/bin/pacdiff
If you already updated then this is expected. It lives in the correct location now.
