I used to use whisper-ctranslate2 as a makeshift, “proof of concept” way of doing subtitles on my streams (without routing my words through someone’s servers), and otherwise use faster-whisper for transcription. This was back on an Ubuntu variant. Been trying to use them under Garuda, but they either throw an error (e.g. ‘faster-whisper not found,’ ‘wrong bitrate,’ etc.), or CTranslate doesn’t seem to respond to my microphone at all for some reason.
Ironically, I got insanely-fast-whisper working (it didn’t on my old distro), but I can’t use it for real-time, live subtitles. (I also tried nerd-dictation and actually got it working, but I need something that stays in the same window, even when I tab out. )
Also, I’m not sure if this is on the side of the source code or Garuda or what, but OBS doesn’t have its menu bar, no matter what version I use (even tried the flatpak, just in case). This makes it hard to import my profile and stuff. I tried changing themes (just in case) - no dice. If it makes any difference, I’m on the Dragonized version.
If anyone more familiar with this stuff could help, I’d really appreciate it.
I’m not sure about the titlebar. Maybe something to do with your theme choices? As for whisper, I hope you’re using a virtual environment and the appropriate versions, or you’ll have a bad time, if you can even make it work. If you want to debug that more, it’s probably best to bring this to its own topic with a lot more detail.
Floorp is not updated in chaotic-aur and only Firedragon is updated. I have noticed it from previous version. What is the reason for this? Rebasing Firedragon on others work and not packaging Floorp?
I assume its because its the length of time its been flagged out of date; it usually gets updated the following weekend according to the notes (and its been about two weekends).
Not to mention the the binary in the AUR AUR (en) - floorp-bin is updated on a tighter schedule.
I would guess you could see if it gets updated soon (like sometime this month for example) but if it doesn’t maybe suggest people use floorp-bin in the AUR instead?
Maybe the maintainer is just on vacation or something.
The co-maintainer is also a Chaotic-AUR maintainer, I just let them know. Turns out there has been an issue with building the app (likely needs clang/llvm things to be at version 17), which also has been communicated in AUR comments. Might get it fixed soon now that the assumed fix is known.
Since you are clearly able to make clever assumptions like that, please at least do some homework before jumping to quick conclusions.
You might have noticed other team members don’t like this behavior either and suggested the removal of the package in question. Since many people are using Floorp, it’s going nowhere though. I’m assuming the package update will follow soon.
This is an Electron app for a proprietary cloud application which cannot be used without payment. It has a particularly large size, which is also a barrier. It has dormant maintainers (>2.5 months since flag). I inspected both the current package and the most recent one that the maintainers have not yet updated to. The Electron version currently in use is end of life (28.1.0), the most recent release is almost end of life – but is still outdated (30.0.6) For these reasons, it’s not right for us to add. Thanks for requesting!
It’s a GUI app that makes setting up VR on Linux soooo much easier. Heck, it worked when I struggled to get things quite working, myself, after manually installing, like, a dozen packages. Definitely can take a while to compile everything, though, on some systems.
