Can't set up protonmail with thunderbird

I put in the correct email and password then it auto-fetches the configuration from protonmail. When I click ‘done’ it says ‘unable to connect to server. probably wrong configuration, username, or password’.

I think you can’t add protonmail to Thunderbird or any other client unless using their protonmail-bridge, which is paid.

Their Mail Bridge is for paid plans only as mentioned. However after some digging, I was able to find hydroxide (git/aur), which the owner of the repo claims works for free accounts as well. Maybe worth checking out.
