Can't install Garuda

Greetings. I’m trying to get into Garuda so I’ve took my old laptop out for trials to be sure that things I want work correctly, but I can’t install Garuda because of dracut error.

Apparently also partition creation won’t work because of insufficient space on HDD which isn’t true since I can assign them and configure in custom partitioning no problem. Here’s log from when dracut started:

Is there something I’m doing wrong after all or should I try with different flash drive (used Balena Etcher with Garuda Dr460nized Gaming Edition)? I’ve also tried rebuilding dracut but that didn’t help.

Thanks in advance

Hi there, welcome to the forum.
I think you could try with the normal dr460nized version using Ventoy instead of balena etcher.
Make sure also to verify the checksum.

So I’ve installed Ventoy on my flash drive, copied .iso on it (checksum verified) and it still gives me dracut error, return code -1.

I think it has something to do with my laptop hardware maybe because I tried another distro that uses Calamares and it didn’t work.

Edit - during GPT install I get systemd error, external command crashed

Command systemd-machine-id-setup crashed. There was no output from the command.

Just some general advices:

This looks way too old. Check for and update.

This is something I noticed also somewhere else in the past. But it was not a problem in the end.
Anyway, I’d try a different USB Key and a different USB Port…

Beware that modern Linux isn’t really meant for antiquated hardware. You’ve got enough RAM, just not really enough horsepower. I would look for a low-consumption Window Manager–maybe. But definitely no gaming or fancy DE.

If you want to know how/if it will perform on another rig, use the other rig. I would also choose the non-gaming d460nized version. The gaming ISO may have a few hiccups, depending.

Only for very new hardware, IIRC.
It needs also more RAM for the installation.

I’ve updated BIOS but Calamares still shows errors. I’ll try changing HDD to another one/SSD and if that won’t work as well then well, I’ll try dual booting on my main PC
