Ok, so I don’t even know where to go for this problem, so I will just ask around and see if anyone knows. It has been brought to my attention in the past that since Lutris doesn’t cooperate with my system, that bottles will. Oddly enough, it has.

I don’t know what happened, but I can’t get into the settings of the bottles.

None of these options will let me get into the settings. I have tried reinstalling bottles and no luck.

What is odd is, this works:

Also the game still runs:

But, I cannot access the settings of the bottle. I would like to atleast get a chance at backing this up so I can transfer the entire bottle to another computer if this cannot be resolved.

I don’t know if this is a Garuda issue or just a Bottles issue. Any solutions would be helpful.

Thanks

Check if this or other recent comments in AUR help:

I wouldn’t mind giving this a shot, but how do you launch a script like this?

Since you can launch the bottles I was rather thinking to the comment suggesting to

comment out the following part in bottle_preferences.py at line 142:

if not gamemode_available or not Xdp.Portal.running_under_sandbox():
        return

Add a # in front of the two lines

That makes sense, but, how do you actually launch (or run) the script so that the changes actually take place?

Being a python file, I assume the change will take effect the next time you’ll launch Bottles.
The file should be at:
/usr/share/bottles/bottles/frontend/views/bottle_preferences.py
The patch, on the other hand, would require that you perform a classic AUR installation (without using helpers), cloning and compiling.
Or you could perform those python changes manually, but that would be more risky.
By-the-way, have you tried reinstalling Bottles? Not that it should help much if this is a bug in a recent release, but this is something I always try.
Finally, if you’re sure it is a bug in the most recent release, you could try

sudo downgrade bottles

hi Fenris,

maybe download the file and install it with makepkg -i ? Looks like a downgrade it those patch to 51.17 if i see right in the Terminal. My settings was working on Hyprland but i dont know xfce

This problem came out of nowhere I didn’t even notice that it was screwed up till I did updates. How I update my system is, when Pamac says there is updates, then I do a drop down terminal and do sudo rm -rf /var/lib/pacman/db.lck && garuda-update --aur --noconfirm and call it a day and never reboot my system for the next month. It’s kind of my computing habbits so I never noticed the change until more reciently.

Now here is where my questions come in, lets say I downgrade bottles and an update to bottles comes out where this annoying problem dissappears. Then lets say, next month, someone got there act together and fixed this 2 months down the line. Will I be stuck with this version for awhile when I don’t even notice the updates came out? In other words, would I have to pay attention to the updates and manually upgrade bottles later on, or the next time I do garuda-update --aur it’s getting upgraded automatically no matter what?

The reason why I asked this is because the only time I have ever had to downgrade anything was putting Garuda on my surface pro 9. The camera’s are dead on it when you use the Surface Kernal, however if you used 6.6.56-1-lts LTS kernal, sometimes you could get the camera to work on the intel drivers. But, when I downgraded this kernal install, the updates that came out for it would be constantly bipassed. I wouldn’t want this to happen with bottles as I’m not knowledgable enough to understand what is going on with all these updates, I just do them and blindly trust everything will be ok.

If i did downgrades and did afterwards new updates it alsways updated bottles too. If you compile a package or downgrade should be come a Question in the Terminal do you want set it to a ignore list? Say NO then the updates workes. i did one time wrong and had to do manually update myself or watch for the file and delete bottle out and should be fine again to get updated. Only my experiences with garuda

If you just downgrade, the “buggy” version of bottle will come back the next time you’ll update.
If you downgrade and add bottle to the line starting with IgnorePkg (removing the comment) in /etc/pacman.conf (downgrade will offer you to do this automatically), from that point on bottles will not be updated, but garuda-update (actually pacman) will remind you (through the many lines scrolling during an update) that you have this in IgnorePkg every time you’ll luanch it.
So, yes, you’ll have to pay attention to the updates, and when a new version of bottles will be released, you should remove bottles from IgnorePkg and try the updated version.

Anyway, I did a quick test out of curiosity and the patch worked for me.
I don’t use Bottles, so I installed it but then I was not able to create a Bottle at all (some buttons were unresponsive).
I updated the two python files mentioned in the patch:

/usr/share/bottles/bottles/frontend/views/bottle_details.py
/usr/share/bottles/bottles/frontend/views/new_bottle_dialog.py

commenting the lines with ‘-’ and adding the lines with ‘+’, then I was able to create a Bottle.
The preferences worked for me also before the patch, but probably there might be some differences due to the fact that I’m on KDE, not Xfce.

wired i did install Bottles on my xfce lappi and it worked. Did create a new Bottle and also can go in settings. :upside_down_face:

ps. I dont know if you ever try Play on Linux ?
There i have also some older games installed and also Doom 3

I see Bottles was updated earlier today (but after my test).
It could be that there was a fix for that.
This could be it:

both working funny kde and xfce on 21-2 and hprland actully not updated because patched yesterday but didnt run a update yet.

do you have maybe missing dependencies ?

because not fully upgraded?

Last chance would be trying the flatpak version…
Maybe backup your home Bottles directory.
Most likely flatpak has a different folder where you’ll have to copy you current files.

Honestly just use the flatpack (Its the official one) don’t even bother with the arch pkgs for bottles or even obs its just not worth it.

Ok, I got good news…the flatpack version fixes the problem…

However it generates some new issues…

  1. I don’t know how to put it into the menu
  2. I do not know how to move over Doom 3 to the flatpack version of bottles
