Can't change backlight settings

I just installed Garuda in my Acer Nitro 5 and everything worked fine until I tried to change the screen brightness. It doesn’t work but the keys still sends commands and the brightness bar appears and changes its value. I’ve already installed brightnessctl and nvidia-bl-dkms but neither solved the problem. I also tried modifying the kernel parameters using the guide on the wiki but still nothing. Does someone know how to fix this?

Noo.

This is a guess, here, but:

Use the instructions here to set up ddcutil.

I don’t know if Acer laptop screens use i2c or not, but it cant hurt to try.

Hi @KaiserGabo , and welcome back to the community! , please provide garuda-inx,

for Brightnessctl , you can use brightnessctl -l to list your devices and check for devices ending with the tag “backlight” and you will get at least 2 , in ex:

Device 'nvidia_0' of class 'backlight':
	Current brightness: 80 (80%)
	Max brightness: 100

then use brightnessctl -d nvidia_0 set 5-% in my case , - for decrease & + for increase . “change nvidia_0 with names you get from the first command”

The system changes brightness and it reflects on brightnessctl -l, but the screen itself still doesn’t change its brightness

Were the parameters the same ones mentioned in this article?
https://medium.com/@prabhatmaurya907/how-to-make-your-acer-nitro-5-linux-ready-2821ea23cd81
It features the exact model of your laptop: Nitro AN515-58.

Looking at your params here, it doesn’t look like they were properly set.
To set the kernel param:

  1. Edit /etc/default/grub (sudo micro /etc/default/grub)
    2, On the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT, add acpi_backlight=native
  2. Run sudo update-grub and reboot

If this doesn’t resolve the issue, please post your garuda-inxi again.

Or use garuda-boot-options, edit kernel parameters, apply, done.
