Browser duplication with search

Opening search in browser from desktop? In Plasma if I select text in the terminal (or other), right click and search it will open a NEW browser window with all the currently active tabs - even though I already have a window opened! How to I get the search to open in a new tab in the currently opened window and avoid duplication??

Is the browser which opens the same browser, or something else?

The same browser, the default set browser - Librewolf.
I have a Librewolf window open with many tabs open.
When I open links from elsewhere is will open a new Librewolf window and all the tabs again - and add the search.
I wish the system to recognise there is a window already open and add a search tab to it -not duplicate it.

In about:config, what value do you have for browser.link.open_newwindow?

browser.link.open_newwindow`3

What happens if you click a link in another application? Does it open in the window you already have, or does it launch a new browser instance?

If you change your default search engine, do you get a different result?

Thank you!!
A value of 1 works!

huh, well not quite want I want. It over-rides the open tab with the new link/search.
I was wondering what happened to this forum post! :upside_down_face:

Re-seting the value back to “3” now seems to work with the behaviour I expect.
Thanks again for the insight!

This is not working in Librewolf on my other Garuda machine.
There is also the setting: browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external
This did not work either.

I finally figured out what was going on!
I still had the appimage in my restored folders but had been using the Garuda package.
The settings had the default set as the appimage!
That’s why it was opening new window!
Ugh! :joy:
