Brightness up/down does not do anything in Dell XPS 9320

I cannot control lightness. Pushing light up/down buttons on the dell xps 9320 plus keyboard result in 0 changes.

These are the binding in the i3 config file:

bindsym XF86MonBrightnessUp exec "xbacklight -inc 10; notify-send 'brightness up'"
bindsym XF86MonBrightnessDown exec "xbacklight -dec 10; notify-send 'brightness down'"

the only way to change brightness at the moment is to change the value in the file:

cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
