Brawlhalla with steam has lag

When first installed Garuda KDE, the game Brawlhalla ran beautifully smooth and realtime. But a few days later, it has not been the same, it’s laggy and not only ingame, but also in menus, and have been really painful to play like that.

I’ve tried X11 and Wayland (i think it’s a little better) closing everything except steam and the game, also all the possible combinations of steam from 7 up and also with the parameters to speed it up (HERE you can see the latest in the Advanced Launched Parameters section)

Anyway, hope you can find what’s wrong and what could i do to be able to play it good again (i’m surprised that games that are heavier in 3d graphics and stuff run smoothly and not brawlhalla which is far lighter i think).

PS: sometimes when streaming with OBS, i feel it runs a little better too, but not sure if it’s real.

Could you paste what exactly you have for launch options? Maybe the game has options that also have to be set to match the refresh rate on the monitor and what is set with -setfps ?

Also, have you tried it without launch options with Proton Experimental or 9? (as that might work given the reports at https://www.protondb.com/app/291550 )

Makes me think you might of made an error with the refresh rate settings? If you set the fps above the refresh rate (with the game’s Steam launch options) while having OBS running that might of “helped” lower the fps a bit (and would try to keep it in line)? Just a wild guess though.

I’ve tried all the combinations possible between proton 7, 8, 9, experimental and GE, and with each one this combinations:
-framefix -framefixunbounded -setfps 60 -noeac
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 gamemoderun %command% -framefix -triplebuffer -setfps 60 -noeac
and also 144, 160 (my main monitor is 160)
That’s why i came here, cause i’m tired of trying all the combinations and maybe it’s not my computer…don’t know :confused:

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% -framefix -setfps 160  -noeac

If using this exact command doesn’t work correctly with either Proton Experimental or 9, there might be something else at play here.
(I suggested trying without -triplebuffer because of this statement on the webpage you linked: “We have renamed the -framefixunbounded parameter to -triplebuffer. We recommend using -triplebuffer only after experimentation since some PCs will see a performance decrease while using it.” )

I would also recommend to verify the game’s files.

I would highly recommend to update your BIOS. There is an extremely important update available to you. Even if this doesn’t remedy the gaming situation, it is worth doing.

Other than that, I can’t think of all too much on top of my head other than trying a different kernel; maybe the LTS kernel could help?
