Boring video output selection

Hi everyone, I’m not new to the Garuda world but I use it mainly at home, without great expectations.
I have four stations:
Mint for my son
Win for my wife (unfortunately)
Win+Dr46onized on my desktop
Dr46onized on Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro (on which I replaced the wifi module with an Intel one since it was equipped with a Broadcom).
Everything works great… except for one simple stupidity that annoys me…
Every time I close and reopen the screen on the laptop, the video output selector appears in front of me. Is there a way to avoid it?

Disabling video output? I don’t know.
Besides, I don’t even know the key combination to do it
Thanks to anyone who can tell me something

Hi @Pasqui and welcome to the community , Is there any HDMI cable and/or external monitor plugged in ?, cause this only appears while having multiple screens

Thanks for you answer.
I’ve never had other monitors connected… but where does the screenshot you sent me come from?
And both commands send me ERROR
Schermata_20240311_164937

oh well… it seems that unplugging the power cable (proprietary USB) doesn’t do this trick…

Ops that’s my fault share this : journalctl -xe ; grep display and journalctl -xe ; grep acpi

it could be it , but the above commands does share more info, so please share it .

No issues appear in the logs, so the cause could be related to anything plugged in externally.

the point is that the only thing connected is the power supply and removing that doesn’t cause the problem… strange really…

This following was confirmed not to work. Apologies for the misinformation.

Found an answer here how to disable the popup: https://forum.manjaro.org/t/dual-monitor-dialog-keeps-popping-up/117165

in the status and notificaitons click on the settings icon, click entries and display configuration set to disabled, click apply

Here are some screenshots just to make it easier:

Screenshot_20240313_162703

Edit: This doesn’t really answer the question of what the issue is, though. Maybe, if you’re willing, it could be useful to post a kde bug report.

There was no response in that thread and it didn’t work anyway.
But thanks anyway
Now I noticed something else: it only does it on X11, on Wayland it doesn’t cause any problems!?
Is this a subliminal message telling me it’s time to move to Wayland for good?

If it is only a bug in a X11 session; it wouldn’t hurt to try a Wayland session out more to see how that works for you.
(Considering most development has shifted in favor of Wayland sessions for KDE, this could of been fixed only for Wayland sessions.)

You are absolutely right. The only thing holding me back is Rustdesk (which I use a lot) which is not yet optimized for Wayland. On the desktop I have started WL since yesterday and after the latest update it is finally working like a charm (nvidia-dkms) but using Rustdesk on both PCs with WL, the image is completely green :sob:

So does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this or possibly disabling something that would prevent this window from showing up? (X11 obviously)
Anyway, thank you all for the replies, this forum is truly spectacular :love_you_gesture:

Hi @Pasqui , i do some research but can’t find anything useful/related to this issue, and everything inside the logs seems just fine, so as you said X11 can do the job for now .

Thank you @Straight I’ll stay on X11 until things settle down. By the way, after today’s latest update, things have gotten worse… after opening the lid, the screen remains black with the mouse pointer moving. Back to desktop in a random time, takes 5 or 10 or 30 seconds. Under Wayland, if I open the lid it stays off and turns on if I press a button…

Did a bit more digging, and found out this seems to be an OSD built into kscreen.

https://vizzzion.org/blog/2018/02/connecting-new-screens/

The readme says “easy to configure for those who want special setups”, but I doubt they give an option to disable the OSD. Don’t really have the time to dig through the repo.

I’ve seen some people disabling this service. I’m not really sure what kscreen is all responsible for, so I can’t say to disable it without doing some research first. However, others claim it’s safe to do. A possible solution? I can’t test it, so I can’t say for certain.
