i found this thread and followed the advice, system is back to how it was before the problems occurred, Nvidia settings has all the correct info, will test games now.

sudo pacman -Rdd nvidia-settings nvidia-utils opencl-nvidia libxnvctrl lib32-nvidia-utils lib32-opencl-nvidia
sudo pacman -S nvidia-open-dkms egl-wayland lib32-nvidia-utils lib32-opencl-nvidia nvidia-settings opencl-nvidia nvidia-utils
