I also had intermittent (typically after an update, but not always) black screen (key press or mouse had no effect). But this only appeared on “reboot”. If, during the black screen, I pressed the I/O switch (not the power supply) and shut down the computer and turned it back on, the screen came back and login was normal. Doing a shutdown after an update and turning it back on, also worked. (not looking for a solution, just an observation). Today the reboot cycle worked just fine.

The item noticed was that reboot behaved differently than shutdown/start, in the blackscreen, and not getting to display a login. This was first observed ~ month ago. I was thinking this would eventually get handled upstream, so not concerned yet.
This isn’t a solution but doing a shutdown does get me back to graphics with a login screen.
BTW, I don’t have xone, xow, or xpad installed.
