I recently installed Garuda and after finishing things when I turned my laptop off . I get black screen and can’t do anything when I try to start again. I get black screen after the selection (I selected Garuda Linux). I am totally new to Linux and this is my first time.
Hi there, welcome to the forum.
As a first troubleshooting step, try booting and then restoring the latest working snapshot.
After restoring and rebooting, if it works, enter in a terminal:
garuda-update
complete the update and reboot.
In case of further troubles, please provide here the output of your specs with:
garuda-inxi
I don’t have Any snapshots I just installed it and rebooted and I am still stuck in the black screen. I can only access a prompt saying “grub”
My device - HP ProBook 445 G7
Ram - 16GB
Storage - 500GB SSD
Gfx - amd Radeon built in graphics
Try booting from your live ISO USB.
Open RANI there and find a button to chroot
into your system.
It should open a terminal with root privileges. Then try:
garuda-update
It will show a few errors and warnings for sure, but if the process completes succesfully try rebooting into your system (removing the USB).
If it still doesn’t work, you could also try reinstalling the GRUB (again from the live USB with RANI).
In case of further failure, retrieve your system specs from the live USB (either with RANI) or from terminal with:
garuda-inxi
and post the output here.
Can you provide a video/link or something I’m totally new here. I can’t upload images to show my problem because of new account
okay my friend seeing you are new you best redo your installation, that sure be easiest. That is if you have a nvidia graphic card. Then install Garuda choosing the nvidia option. After installation run the update, however watch the process and see if the nvidia dkms modules throw up an error. If so after the update open a terminal ( Press Ctrl-t) and enter the code below, this will install the open source dkms driver and modules and could well fix your issues. (When you run the code below it may tell you there are dependency issues. simply uninstall the conflicting files and re run the code.
sudo pacman -Sy nvidia-open-dkms egl-wayland lib32-nvidia-utils lib32-opencl-nvidia nvidia-settings opencl-nvidia nvidia-utils
Hope this helps.
to uninstall a file
sudo pacman -R ‘conflicting file name’
after the code has successfully finished reinstall the conflicting files if possible, otherwise simply leave them, for then you have the latest driver already.
to reinstall
sudo pacman -Sy ‘packet name you unistalled before’
if the above does not work try this instead
Please don’t get me wrong, but in what way should a picture of your black screen help us?
We can do more with your computer data from gruda-inxi.
We don’t even know which DE you want to install.
There are no videos, but there are texts.
I wasn’t talking about giving the picture of the black screen i was going to give the picture of the interface before i got the black screen. I reinstalled garuda and used garuda-update and here is the output of garuda-inxi

It is not helpful to edit the garuda-inxi
posted by the live environment and thus change it to a garuda-inxi
of an installation. If such basic things change, then it makes sense to post a new one.
To prevent spam and other nonsense, new members are not allowed to post pics. But you can use an external pic-hoster and share the link here.
Obviously you have windows dualboot, is Secure Boot and Fastboot disabled in the BIOS? If not, then disable it, Garuda Linux does not officially support Secure Boot.
I would also be sure that the ISO you downloaded was not corrupted.
