Authentication is required to find old snapper snapshots

Out of nowhere now every time I log in I get this…

And even worse, it makes no difference whether I put in my password or click cancel… nothing happens, and it will just do it again next time I log in. How can I stop this madness?

I suppose turning off that option in Garuda System Maintenance will stop that. I wonder why it’s popping up though.

At first glance it looks like the setting does exactly what it is supposed to do.

Check the number of snapshots you have.

I would argue I was never asked to find old snapshots, but when deleting them.

There are polkit rules in place to allow that process without interaction from what I can see here.

Seems like OP is not part of the wheel group?

@Serqetry post the output of cat /etc/group | grep wheel pls. Also if you read the screenshot carefully, it says “authenticating as ROOT” and not as user X (whatever you called yourself).

I noticed this warning during an update:

Not sure why this changed, but it wasn’t anything I did. Anyway I assume this isn’t the cause, but you mentioned polkit and it’s a strange coincidence that this warning started happening shortly before the annoying authentication thing started popping up.

Well I have no idea what changed but I’ve done a few garuda-updates and that authentication box has not popped up again for the last few reboots. Hopefully it is gone for good.
