here is my problem
Unable to create io-slave. Unknown protocol 'audiocd'.

at this point i have not tried anything as the issue has just appeared. any suggestions

Hi there, welcome!
You haven't specified when this error occurs. I assume when trying to play an audio CD... Maybe with a specific application?
Anyway, I think you could try installing audiocd-kio
