Hey guys i cannot find a way to share my application only i have to live my whole screen if i have to screen share on discord and Skype , how to share screen of a specific application on Linux
the only option i get in screen share on google meet via firefox is to share my entire screen same is for skype desktop and discord Here is the link to reddit post i created for same issue
I am using Garuda Linux Kde dragonized version for gaming
Operating System: Garuda Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.84.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2
Kernel Version: 5.13.6-zen1-1-zen (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 6 × Intel® Core™ i5-8600K CPU @ 3.60GHz
Memory: 23.3 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics 630
Kazam will to that, though I think this one only records.
I know OBS will at least record just a rectangle of the screen, it might be smart enough to select just a window output. OBS will act as a "virtual camera" to feed Discord, Skype, etc.
OBS is in the repos with a ton of plugins on the AUR
Yes skype and discord can do screen sharing on Ubuntu that i can confirm , But i think this is Os related issue as i was able to share screen on google meet using FF when i was in live boot session
And you claim you cannot do the same on the installed system, IIUC.
If it is so, please, help us help you and post a link to Skype documentation that says you can share an application window.
The same for Discord (which I’ve never used).
That’s because they might need some requirements, or have specific procedure/instructions to achieve this.
I think this is not actually a Garuda issue, so maybe we move the topic to Unsupported Software (AUR & Other) .
Waiting for your feedback on how to proceed.
yes i think there is because if the issue is with applications only then why firefox is not able to do application screen share while being able to Share entire screen
Have you gone through those procedures? What went wrong?
As I said I don't know/use Discord, but instructions seem pretty clear.
You haven't said anything about what you did.
Added:
It also depends which package you use for each service. google-meet-desktop seems dead
Discord has a large community, that could help better.
Skype for linux has not one package. Also you may find support on the web.
It is considered impolite to bring one's own topic to the front and to bother team members or other helpers with unnecessary questions such as "is there a result yet".
Sure bro , i really really appreciate it ,
what i have found so far is that ,this issue also exists in Manjaro (KDE) , But for Manjaro (Gnome) the google meet works It gives option to Share an application via some OS interface.
