Another one in Garuda

Hello to everyone.
I introduce myself, I am a user tired of Windows, its unexpected crashes for no reason, and above all its way of wasting hardware resources. I came across a news of a Linux distro that apart from being oriented to Games, is based on Arch, and what the hell, take advantage of the hardware to 100%, well this is what Linux is about, isn’t it? Unfortunately I am still in the process of migrating everything I have from Windows to Linux, so I use my PC with dual boot. If all goes well in a few months, hopefully not years, I will have done it. I don’t consider myself a computer expert, but I’m not afraid to face the challenges that may come from GNU-Linux/Garuda. hey, I’ve been using MWindows for years, nothing can scare me anymore! hahahha. I’m a newbie, so I want to thank everyone in advance, for all the questions I will ask and my apologies for the obvious questions and mistakes I will make. :face_with_peeking_eye: thanks to all of you.
Regards.
PS.- English is not my language, so again apologies if you didn’t understand me well.

Hello and welcome from another recent convert!

Welcome .

Just out of curiosity: when you state “take advantage of the hardware to 100%”, do you mean Arch/Garuda is not using hardware resources unnecessarily?

Hi @guybrush

Well I’m not a GNU Linux/Garuda expert, I already stated that. My comment was in the context that I was comparing it to MS Windows. But an example of that you have in ZRAM management. I don’t use a swap partition, I use all my RAM (32 GiB) for ZRAM, based on the phrase: Unused RAM is wasted RAM (which by the way, I copied from: System requirements & notes, from the Garuda wiki) is a good example. If Garuda uses all the hardware at 100%, I don’t know. But compared to the OS I come from, I can tell you and I think I’m not wrong, yes. Shutting down my PC in less than three seconds compared to Windows, which took more than a minute, another example.

Thanks for the welcome and support. By the way, I love your nickname, I still remember when I was a kid playing Monkey Island, what a laugh!

¡ Hola @LucenLuc ! Welcome to Linux land. Arch Linux is a notoriously “hard to use” Linux distro, but Garuda really has managed to make it so user friendly that people who are new to Linux can use it, and I think that’s amazing. I wish you lots of happy linuxing in the future!
