Hi,

After performing my daily update today, KDE’s splash screen started acting weird. After logging in, it stays on-screen forever.

The system isn’t frozen, since I can close the splash screen manually by using CTRL+Q and then I can continue using my system normally.

It doesn’t seem to matter what splash screen I use. I switched to the default Breeze splash and I get the same issue.

I’ve looked it up online but most people seem to be having issues with their system freezing on the splash screen, which I’m assuming is a separate issue.

Not sure what logs to post in this case. I’ll leave the journal logs that I get from boot to me closing the splash manually. Any help is appreciated!

Thank you.

I don’t know if this error is relevant to your current issue, but it shows that you have done some custom modifications without knowing the proper way.
For the quoted error, the file mentioned requires only variable assignments, not anything else, like commands.
Example (imaginary values) :

env MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 # wrong
MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 # correct

Consider investigating what other custom configuration modifications you have made, and try to find out their proper usage.
For the above example, read man page:

man environment.d

Also consider updating to 6.2.1.1, maybe, just maybe, this is related.

Fair enough. I was tinkering my Firefox and found an environment variable for using smooth scrolling. I ended up pasting the wrong text into firefox.conf. Thanks for the heads up!

That fixed it! I just ran update and restarted, and the splash screen went away on its own after that.

Thanks!
