when i install garuda i get this error massege

the bootloader could not be installed. the installation command <pre>grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --efi-directory=/boot/efi --bootloader-id=Garuda --force</pre>
reterned arror code 1

sorry for category i dont know how to chenge it now

Hi there, welcome.
Make sure your BIOS is in UEFI mode and fast boot and secure boot are both disabled in the BIOS.

Search terms the bootloader could not be installed

the bootloader could not be installed

it is in uefi mode and fastboot and secure boot are both disabled

Try burning again the USB with balena Etcher (unless you already used it).
If failing again, please check if any other information is shown after error code 1.

i dont think thats the problem bc it happend before with deepin too and i tried ventory and deepin usb maker and still same
but i will try it thanks

I don't want to insist, but what burning method have you used?
And if I may, what burning options as well?
I have had this kind of errors, with other distros, when not using the proper burning method to make it work as expected.

used ventory
and etcher fails to flash lol

It takes special settings to get two disks with two different schemes to work. And many machines won’t do so at all. Decide on one or the other then install accordingly. GPT/UEFI is the current standard.

Also, this is an old machine; is there a BIOS update available that is newer than 2017?

EDIT: This below message (related to the MBR drive) also concerns me. Please, tell us more about this drive. Is it internal or external? Who was the manufacturer, etc.?

BTW, you mean Ventoy.

Try dd

yes sorry
what is dd

I also noticed only now that you have 4GB of RAM - the part used by the GPU.
Maybe it is the bare minimum accepted by the installer, but it is for sure not enough for gaming

u mean my usb drive is mbr while the drive is gpt?
can i chenge that?
i dont have anything on my flash drive

i dont think there is a new bios update this is really old

this is a normal usb drive that i used to oot garuda live

OK, then please disregard my first assessment, and go with @filo and @SGS’s

Minimum requirements

  • 30 GB storage space
  • 4 GB RAM
  • Video card with OpenGL 3.3 or better
  • 64-bit system

i know but its better then windows (i think swap will help a bit as well)
im really tired of windows its so slow and has alot of other problems
when i use garuda live image its good at speed and other things
plus i dont think a grub installing error is really that related to ram u know?

From a Linux system

sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb bs=1m
sudo dd if=<file.iso> of=/dev/sdb

Do you dual or multiple boot (I see the hdd is big)?
If so, it could be that the space in your esp partition is exhausted...
