Well for me it was that urge to know more, to take risk, try something new which adds to my knowledge. I didn’t study anything about linux or related stuff yet ventured into this field.
Even distro selection process for me was not quite as per a rule book, rather more like which distro comes in first in sight
Chose “Garuda” primarily because it symbolizes The Mighty Eagle who is at the service of Lord VIshnu (as per Hindu Mythology). In short, Garuda is like one of the biggest devotee of Lord Vishnu who serves as one of Almighty’s most trusted Generals. That symbolism, a connect with my Indian roots actually made me venture here. But making me stay was altogether a different story.
First, since I was new, didn’t know much, the setup assistant, latte dock, beautiful DE made me wanting to stay here, i remember pamac was there as default like 2 years ago so managing software and stuff was fairly easy and command line was usually neglected as i didn’t know a bit except “sudo”, that too in specific cases
Then often times like when i didn’t know much about linux app ecosystem, package manager, etc. did switch to Windows, which i like too, particularly as it was the first OS i had ever used, all those pleasant memories… Anyways I did switch to windows for playing certain games (valorant) but then I chose productivity over minor trifles!
Fast Forward 2 years, Now the case is that, what started like an adventure became A WAY OF LIFE. Now i would term myself an intermediate user, who knows how to manage the system and thanks to how much productive I have become on Linux is way beyond comprehensible than would have been on Windows. Now Windows seems OS of the past.
Though all this seeming “Sweet Love Affair” isn’t like it seems, particularly after plasma 6 was released, too many compositor updates, rip apart stability and functionality, yet now most the things are stable and hopefully should be.
One thing I’d like to add, while I faced these wayland issues, i did often heard from others that “Garuda is bloated arch and blah …blah …blah” I was taken by their statements and did distrohop on multiple distros but to incur too many disappointments, for me none of the distros presently in competition with Garuda Linux are able to provide, all the top notch features which Garuda provides be it btrfs with snapper, beautiful fish konsole, kde tweaks, etc. also the problem for which i did distrohop, existed everywhere. Ultimately, last night it was Garuda Telegram group members who actually helped me and i was able to be back again on my favourite distro!
Presently I own 3 devices, with 2 running Garuda Linux, one has Windows 10 (office and adobe stuff).
Thank You Team Garuda!
