Update and no audio devices found

You can try today's beta ISO: Index of /garuda/iso/garuda/dr460nized/220130/

Audio works on that one, so went with a fresh reinstall. Thanks TNE. Thank you @Bro for the suggestions. Glad I managed to avoid the pain of a bios update this time.

Interesting. There was 4 package removals and 2 additions (didn't include the nvidia package in my count, and I might have missed something) over the last release of dr460nized compared to this beta version. Most of them are audio related (no surprised jack2 is removed).

Removed:
celt , jack2 , zita-alsa-pcmi , zita-resampler

Added:
linux-firmware-whence , oniguruma

Given the reports (and what audio hardware they are running), I am going to go out on a limb and say some of the updated audio packages need that additional firmware package and that is why its only breaking for some installations?

ran garuda-update today and rebooted. All is working and I have sound again! Dont know what made things work today!

I haven't been on my laptop in a few days. I just ran another update and rebooted. Again no audio device found.... I wish I knew more of how to diagnose this.

A recent update I tried to do today on one of my machines also has an issue with no sound sources detected in the KDE UI, and I wanted to see if this is similar to your issue. (had to use Snapper to get the system stable for now)
I do hear sound with speaker-test -c2. FireDragon starts slowly, and so do videos on webpages, but they do seem to eventually play with sound.

Since something seems to be holding up the audio detection process, I have tried changing out Pipewire related packages so it would match what the latest KDE dragonized gaming ISO has listed but no luck: pipewire-media-session (instead of wireplumber) and pipewire-v4l2 (instead of the git version). Considering your System install date is so new and that you seem to have the same issues is making me scratch my head even more.

I've tried searching for any recent bug reports on Pipewire related packages though the Arch website and Pipewire's and turned up nothing so I am not quite sure what is at fault. Feels like I am missing something simple here, and now that I think about it I should try to see what FireDragon is trying to tell me (will get back to that later if necessary; taking a break from troubleshooting this at the moment)

I haven’t ran nVidia since it was spelled “nVidia” but have you tried different kernels?

My installation is actually over a year old. In my trials of fixing this issue last time, I ran a command that I found on this forum and while it didn’t install a brand new system, it did change my initial install date.

Yes I have tried zen and lts kernel as well. Same result.

Still updating daily with no change in audio. Always rolling back to last working configuration.

Have you tried installing Wireplumber yet? (And reboot.)

Yes, with the same result.

So audio works...but if you take the update and reboot it is broken, right?

Can you post the package list from the update?

Before the update audio works and the devices are listed in audio settings of the latte dock. After the update there is no audio, and no devices are listed in the audio settings of the latte dock.

There are so many to list as I have been rolling back after the whole no audio thing.

You mean this command?

curl https://iso.builds.garudalinux.org/iso/garuda/dr460nized/xxxxxx/garuda-dr460nized-linux-zen-xxxxxx.pkgs.txt | grep -Eo '^[^ ]+' | paru -Syu --needed -

(replace URL with current package list for the flavor of Garuda you have)

If so, have your tried it again recently? I ask this, because my issues were fixed with a new install on a separate drive. Considering this, I then thought this script should fix the issues on the original install, and it did work (after resolving package conflicts).
Also, it didn’t change my initial “System Install Date”, so I wonder if it is the same command you tried?

No it was not that command. Honestly, I don’t remember. I am going to try this command today though.

curl https://iso.builds.garudalinux.org/iso/garuda/dr460nized/220308/garuda-dr460nized-linux-zen-220308.pkgs.txt | grep -Eo '^[^ ]+' | paru -Syu --needed -

I had to work my way through some conflicts. After this update and a reboot I now have audio.

I assigned the solution to @Kayo, since we mark as solution the post providing the steps or suggestion to fix the problem, not the final implementation.

IIRC, my mistake, sorry for that.

This is more for future reference, as the issue is solved. Instead of using the last date of the iso build...

curl https://iso.builds.garudalinux.org/iso/latest/garuda/dr460nized/latest.pkgs.txt | grep -Eo '^[^ ]+' | paru -Syu --needed -
