Unable to update : KDE systematic freeze

What happened : Ran my daily update. Restarted, login, desktop loaded the background, cursor appeared. This happens from time to time as mentioned here. Usually, a REISUB or two, maybe waiting a couple long minutes sometimes work.

This time, it happened after each update to lastest.

What I did :
Rolled back to an earlier snapshot. Loaded just fine. Reinstalled all packages, then updated. Same issue. Also my bluetooth broke for some reason (bluetoothclt power on failed).

What I did after :
Rolled back to my earliest snapshot. Everything runs fine, even the bluetooth.

What i’ll do now :
Don’t touch that update button, I don’t have the skills to debug which package is screwing my system so much, nor why KDE decide to freeze in place.

Please help me learn to fix this kind of issues

Addedum : My desktop is made of the default widgets

Here you go

You can search your link for “errors”; there are many of them,
or simply try an x11 session from the login page.
Also, create a new user and check this.
Finally, try the Live ISO to see if it crashes as well.

Specifically, search the fixes for this error:

I’ll try it out, thanks for your help!

Added ddcutil to IgnoredPackage for now.
Fixed that issue for now !

same problem +1

Glad to see I wasn’t alone with this problem. Adding ddcutil to ignore as well

that pesky ddcutil was mesing with my system too XD

What’s the uniting factor between you all? Maybe we can automate “ignoring” it.

Not everyone is having issues with this package. Why?

I’ve gone ahead and reverted the package in the repositories.

Just wanted to say ddcutil 2.2.5-2 is out now with reverts that should fix this issue, so you should be able to unfreeze the version now without worries.

Done!
