System freezing after login

I fell asleep with my computer running, my controller cord was resting on the screenshot button and it opened spectacle a million times, and a ton of notifications for blocking memory overuse was up. The system was froze so I force restarted it with the power button now I’m stuck on a grey screen when I log in.

The garuda data file is unavailable as I cannot access the system.

Can you switch to a tty (e.g. CTRL+ALT+F3)? If so, can you log in? This would suggest a KDE plasma problem, or maybe SDDM.
If you use x11, check this suggestion:

If none of the above helps, you could try booting from a live USB, chroot into your system and start checking the status. Maybe you have a disk space issue also.
Did you perform an update without rebooting before this? Or any other important action?

Well I used a different kernel and was able to get in, I updated the system then rebooted, and it seems to be all working like normal. The kernel that was freezing up is no longer doing that.

I’m still not entirely sure why it was happening or what to mark as the solution :sob:

Testing out alternate kernels is a primary troubleshooting step. It is one of the first things that should be tested whenever a serious issue occurs.

Thanks for posting back with your solution. However, it would be far more useful to others if you provide more information.

One of the reasons we ask for a garuda-inxi output on every help request is so that we know the hardware in use. This not only helps forum assistants diagnose problems, it also lets other users know if their problem might be occurring because they own similar hardware. The inxi output is essential forum information for us and others to learn how a problem can be resolved.

Without knowing which kernel you were using originally, and which kernel resolved your issue, your given solution is far less useful to others experiencing a similar problem. Please at a minimum provide this information, so that others know which kernel to try and avoid a bunch of wasted time and bandwidth downloading and testing various different kernels.

I’m glad to see you found a solution to your problem, but in the future please provide more information so that others may benefit from what you learned.

Ok, I’m back. Originally I was using Linux-zen then switched to Linux-lts which let me log in. Linux-zen works as usual now. I forgot about switching to TTY 2 so at the time I thought it was totally unavailable to get the garuda-inxi

I would have usually provided as much information as possible but I only remembered to get back while at work and on my phone  plus it was a weird day overall.

anyway, here’s the garuda-inxi:
