System freeze on splash after update today - reverted to snapshot

Tried updating last week with same results. This time I want to track it down as system keeps reminding me of partial update and that I need to perform full update.

Hard lock - cannot get into any CTRL F screens. Did notice a seemingly important (it was a large chunk in red) error in journalctl:

If I'm not mistaken, this crash is caused by your graphics driver. If you don't mind to stray from the libre way, you could try giving the closed-source drivers a try.

Otherwise, you might be best of reporting that to the nouveau devs and for the time being, downgrading that package until it works.

You know, I didn't want to go down the rabbit hole too far but I found out that I could just put "nouveau.modeset=0" on the grub command and it will not use nouveau module? I happened upon an issue related to Levovo W541 not shutting down and I have the same model and I've always had that issue and they removed nouveau. Well, it fixed my update issue (now totally up to date!) AND fixed my shutdown issue as well.

I also read that the W541 only uses the NVIDIA K1100M when booted on a dock so...I wasn't using the NV GPU all this time anyway.

Thanks for your help!
