Suddenly dont have permission

I have several games from Steam that I run off of an external ssd. It stays connected via USB all the time. I booted up today and I dont have permission to mount the drive. I have it setup to where it mounts automatically on start up and havent had an issue for months until today. I've looked around the forum here and haven't seen an issue exactly like mine. The drive is just a single partition formatted as GPT and ext4 if that makes a difference. I read that it might

Have you tried using chown and chmod to take ownership and permissions, if necessary?

I found a post about this right after I posted. I was waiting to see if it was going to work. Not sure why now, after months, I needed to do this but that was the solution
