Any help is greatly appreciated.....I'm stumped. :man_facepalming: :man_shrugging:

Best,
Sven

Are you mounting network shares?

systemctl list-unit-files --state=failed --no-pager
systemctl list-units -l --no-pager| grep -iE '(net|conn|dhcp|dns)' |grep -viE "(fuse|time)"
systemd-delta --no-pager

I am not.....eventually I'll be connecting the NAS, but at this point I'm not mounting anything in addition at boot time. I have a VeraCrypt container that I plan to set up to automount, but it's stored locally on another drive. I also have cloud storage that I'm going to add a script to mount via rclone/rclone-browser; currently I'm mounting two Google Drive accounts and a OneDrive account (until I get everything moved over to NextCloud and MEGA) manually after logging in, but none of this is really applicable I don't think. I don't have any Samba shares/etc mounting currently.

Here's the output from your suggestions:

Also, it is worth mentioning that when I first boot and login I have to run systemctl restart NetworkManager to get connected to the internet at all. My wireless adapter nor the NetworkManager tray icon are available until I do so. I also have a Tor instance running via systemd service that also needs restarted after NetworkManager before it will work. Maybe I should run the commands you previously posted BEFORE I do those things and post that output? I will reboot now and do it again and run the commands first before I restart NetworkManager....I think that will give you more accurate assessment of what's happening....

Thanks for your help!

OK, here's updated output without restarting NetworkManager first. I'm not sure it's changed much, actually, but here it is nonetheless. I haven't even looked closely yet myself lol

As you can see, I restart NetworkManager and Tor after the output....

How do you know this is failing?

All the indications are that you don't have an active network connection and that is causing the boot process to stall until it hits a time out.

You have three network cards. Given this appears to be an issue with connecting to wifi, have you

  1. tried using an Ethernet cable?
  2. setting the wifi connection to start on boot? (e.g. set "All users may connect to this network")

Yeah the wifi should automatically connect at startup....I should note that this just started happening. It WAS working as expected. When I login, the WiFi auto connects, etc.....As it is now, until I restart NetworkManager, I can't do ANYTHING with the network adapters....

I should clarify, I agree that your assessment is exactly what's happening. There's no network connection and that's causing the boot to stall.....what I can't figure out is WHY there's no network connection until I restart NetworkManager....

So obvious question - what has changed?

Well, aside from normal package manager updates, nothing. Your normal pacman -Syu....

I'm sure you can be more specific about which packages were updated.

For example, Network Manager updates can corrupt stored settings and require you to remove and re-add the connection.

hmmmm......yeah.....let me take a look and see what was updated in the last update....to be totally honest, despite it being likely wreckless, I can't say I necessarily paid a ton of attention to which packages updated this last time....smh....

ya know what....I DO remember something relevant.....nsswitch.conf had a .pacnew that I merged

this don't look right to me....haha...I think this might be the issue smh....I was playing around with using diff/patch to merge .pacnew files.....haha....let me try restoring this.....

EDIT: OK, so it turns out this file is exactly the same as in /usr/share/factory/etc/nsswitch.conf......

OK, here's the contents of net.log.....I'm not sure it's going to shed much light, but nonetheless here ya go:

I don't, personally, see anything that sticks out to me....

But you have to start from somewhere.

AFAIK systemd boot/starting process is done in parallel, unless it is specified as not by one service.
This means the system will boot, no matter if the network is UP.
Since your network can connect, even later than expected, your network is fine.
NetworkManager-wait-online.service will abort trying to connect on boot after 30 sec (by default setting). This means there was a problem to connect (to your wifi) in 30 sec and aborts (fails), so every service that Wants it will also fail.
You need to find why your wifi cannot connect at once.
Rebooting your router is the most common solution, which clears any mistakes in the router device.

Do you have a network capable printer around?

Absolutely right.

Unfortunately, this isn't the issue. I can only wish it were that simple. I should mention that I have TWO wireless routers, and the situation is the same regardless of which network has the higher priority in the connection's general config.

I do, yes.

It is simple. When you troubleshoot, you try to narrow the possible issues. In this case, disable one router temporarily and see if it improves the issue.
Then do the other one.

Shut is down, so it does not interfere, while troubleshooting.
