While doing the updates, I proceeded to upgrade to full version. I selected only a few options to install on desktop system (chromium and libreoffice) then applied to process.
The installer will download an individual file very quickly, but then it takes a minute or so for the next file to start, which will finish almost instantly. Only large files show progress, and those download at approximately 10MB/s. The next file takes a long time to start then.
When I installed Dr460nized on my laptop, everything went very quickly and smoothly.
My desktop is a ryzen5 3700x, gigabyte Aoros b550 mobo. I’m using free drivers.
Sounds like you have a mirror in your mirror list that is timing out but the next in the list is working correctly.
Therefore, refresh your mirror list, or manually remove the non-working mirror.
Yeah, there were a lot of mirrors timing out, and it looked like when I tested mirrors, it just went through the entire list each time I tried to download a file.
After a while, observing and noting which mirror DID work (only 1 was on the final list) I found the mirror list file and deleted everything but the one mirror that worked, and after that, everything came down nice and quickly.
The strange thing is that my laptop, doing the exact same mirror searches on the exact same wifi, found a lot more active mirrors.
Could it be a drivers problem with my motherboard?
I've tried other distros before: Ubuntu could use my wifi, but not my ethernet, Debian couldn't use either, and so on. Only Garuda was able to use both with free drivers.
I'll look for manual arch-linux drivers for my mobo, maybe that'll help. Booting with nonfree didn't work at all, it would just lock up on the load-in screen.
Post your mirrorlists contents.
No, just update your mirror list.
reflector-simple is installed for that exact reason.
On this occasion I increased my mirrorlist from 2 to 5.
But now I see three warnings that I have to research first.

Does your System Administrator know this?
I never failed with
alias | grep upd
upd='sudo reflector --country Germany --latest 5 --age 2 --fastest 5 --protocol https --sort rate --save /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist && cat /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist && sudo pacman -Syu'
Change the country to your liking
There is nothing to do.
reflector --country Germany --latest 5 --age 2 --fastest 5 --protocol https --sort rate --save /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
