Snapper is not in the boot option

Hi,
Last night i updated my system and after that I was not able to find out snapshot option in boot options

Well, I know it's cause ...
last time before updating my system i saw that some snapshot are way older but still in my system. So I just removed all of them through this command :

update remote reset-snapper

after that I updated my system and now there are no snapshots . As it should create a snapshot after a reboot so I rebooted it twice to get a snapshot but it didn't worked
I also tried to create it manually but wasn't successful
Then I tried to update it again and there I found that the config file of the snapshot is missing !
Here is full output of the update :

Then I searched for snapper config files and I found that there is no config file in

/etc/snapper/configs

I searched for that config file on github but wasn't able to find where it is
So can someone give me it's link please ?

I cant post this as text.

all the packages are installed

but

/etc/snapper/configs

have nothing

/etc/snapper/filters/

doesn't exists in my system

And there are no logs in my log files

Could you please check your btrfs assistant -> snapper settings tab?
Can you see a "Select config" and relevant information?
There should be at least a config with Backup path: = /
If not, maybe you could try (again, since this is the last command of update remote reset-snapper)

sudo snapper create-config --template garuda /
2 Likes

Yeah , i have checked but there is nothing in the options

it’s output is like this

 ╭─ankur@ankur in ~
 ╰─λ sudo snapper create-config --template garuda /
[sudo] password for ankur:
Creating config failed (sysconfig-file not found).

BTRFS assistant has a "New Config" option under "Snapper Settings" tab. Create a config named "root" and modify the config however you want.

That also didn't worked :slightly_frowning_face:

Why not try resetting again (and post text results)?

update remote reset-snapper

I got this as output

 ╭─ankur@ankur in ~
 ╰─λ update remote reset-snapper
[sudo] password for ankur:
rm: cannot remove '/.snapshots/': No such file or directory

This is is the relevant part of the script.
Maybe try the last two lines (always adding sudo).
If not working, let's wait for someone who knows better

# Now we force recreate the snapper configs
rm -f /etc/snapper/configs/*
rm -r /.snapshots/
sed -i /etc/conf.d/snapper -e 's,SNAPPER_CONFIGS=.*,SNAPPER_CONFIGS=\"\",'
snapper create-config --template garuda /

Thanks @filo This script worked and now snapper is working well
It has automatically created a new snapshot after reboot and tried manually too

Now everything is working well

Thanks again for your effort @filo

Glad it worked!
Now, why on earth the script didn't work the first time is a mystery to me.
To be honest, I asked to run it again just to see what errors resulted and decide what to do next...

We may never know!
Interesting though...
