Slow boot after gpu change

Hi
I changed from a nvidia gpu to an amd one, and now my system hangs for 1-2 minuets at “loading intitial ramdisk”.
After the 1-2 minuted i get something flash on the screen about amd overdrive.
I have tried some suggestions on disabling it, but they do nothing at best and make the system unbootable at worse.
If this is the problem what would be the suggested way of disabling it?

Thanks

garuda-inxi

I’m not an Nvidia user, but I think you can safely remove this now, and also give a:

sudo dracut-rebuild

I removed nvidia.dkms and rebuild my initramfs, but the problem still remains.
I noticed in the boot log there is a spam of these for about the right amount of time.
plasmashell[4177]: QImage::pixel: coordinate (4,34) out of range
could this have something to do with it?

I don’t think the two are related, but a simple thing you could try is to create a new user and see how booting goes with it (if maybe some KDE/plasmashell configuration got messed up).

I created a test user and set my sddm to auto login with it. But the issue still persists

You can ignore the messages - this is tons of typical KDE spam and only occurs after the initialization of sddm. Your issue starts in the boot process much earlier, check your journal from the beginning.

Edit: post the output from:

pacman -Qs nvidia

and:

maybe some packages are broke and some left over files. how you did remove the nvidia drivers?

maybe reinstall all packages and reboot.

garuda-update remote reinstall

Thanks for the suggestion. I uninstalled nvidia–dkms with pacman .
I reinstalled all the packages, but the problem still persists.

Here is the boot log if it helps.
https://nopaste.net/uqY7iAZZxx

Try to watch in OCTOPI=)

can you check your garuda inxi again? after uninstall the dkms drivers dosnt appear here normally.thanks

its an issue what solved like #filo said sudo dracut-rebuild fix it.

did you try update grub maybe?

sudo update-grub

if those not fix it may you safe your important files and stuff and reinstall new from a usb drive.(some codes a writen on nvidia gcards for boot and a removed card it seems not exist and try to start anyway but take longer)

garuda-update remote fullfix

ps. disable TPM 2.0 in Bios if you have a kind of those chips.

What exactly is shown?

What exactly did you try?

AMD overdrive = overclocking
Did you install anything, for example amdcovc?

If not, check your BIOS settings and, if necessary, load the default settings.

btw:

BIOS update available:

Edit:

Is definitely enabled:

Feb 08 04:42:44 MINDA-MACHINE kernel: amdgpu: Overdrive is enabled, please disable it before reporting any bugs unrelated to overdrive.

Have you ever tested whether you have the issue with another kernel (for example linux-lts)?

i tested with the cachyos and tkg kernels and get the same result
I also updated by bios and nothing changed

both pacman and octopi report it as not installed. and garuda-inxi shows it not installed either

garuda-inxi | grep nvidia
de: kscreen-console,kscreen-doctor gpu: corectrl, lact, nvidia-settings,
nvidia-smi wl: wayland-info x11: xdpyinfo, xprop, xrandr

i have rebuilt my intramfs and updated grub multiple times with these suggestions and so far no change.

I would like to only have to reinstall as a last resort.

The only utility i have install for my gpu is LACT
The suggestions i followed involved adding lines to the grub config, such as
https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1bgtftb/you_can_now_disable_amd_gpu_lower_power_limit/

So OC tools

And a lot of nvidia stuff
But you can ignore that first.

Hey that worked a treat. I shuffled around all my usb devices and now it works great.
Weird that a gpu change triggered that.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

When tinkering on a computer, it quickly happens that a cable is no longer correctly connected to a USB port.

Mouse, keyboard and USB soundcard were flawless in the journal. I bet that a Bluetooth dongle from a gamepad was the cause.
