Hi
Im sitting with a problem I have never had before.
I am trying to permanently delete some folders. Usually ctrl-mouseclick would highlight the folder and shift-del would permantly delete the folder.
Now shift-del does nothing. If I right-click the folder, the option to delete is greyed out. If I open the folder I can del each item with the right-click menu. Del also deletes single items or all selected items. However shift-del does not work.
Please advise.

I also checked the pull-down menu and both del, shift-del were greyed out when I selected a folder.

  • After rebooting, post the FULL output of garuda-inxi in the body of the post (not linked externally, or collapsed with the “hide details” feature)

So, please reboot and format like

  • Format terminal output (including your garuda-inxi) as a code block by clicking the preformatted text button (</>) , or put three tildes (~) above and below the text

Is this about a file browser, and if so, which one is it?

This is not for a terminal. This is for dolphin.
Never had a problem before. I reformatted my system just before the weekend so maybe something there. Thank you

What’s this all about? You plan on fixing this?

This is an upstream systemd bug. I too have had it for a while and likely you do too. Check your jctl output.

Check if this the case for you

Actually there are several duplicates, as usual, e.g.

Where do you read terminal?
But you did not edit your first post.

I assume that you want to delete files in the system folder /, this is not so easy for a good reason, it is best to do this from the Konsole here in KDE to avoid having to write Terminal.
If it should be in the home folder, which still works for me, then the 6-year-old bug has hit you

I’ve not seen it it my inxi output before, but I meet very few of the same conditions. I’ll check later today when I’m in Arch.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Have read a fair amount of posts about the and still dont now how to fix the virtual console issue. Last year I found a post that sorted it in 1 command. (Cant find it again gah!)
Not sure what the 6 year bug is??
Sorry about saying “terminal”
All I want to do is shift-del folders on my external drive which are no longer needed - aka cleanup.
But never had the issue before except with this latest full reinstall about 2 weeks ago.
Filo, yes that is the issue. Just want to completely delete a file with the shortcut.

Yet it works if i permanently delete a file. Thanks

If the KDE bug is your issue, have you checked in System Settings > Shortcuts > Standard Shortcuts (hope this is the correct place) if you have a Shift+Delete shortcut assigned to Cut and, if so, deleted it?

That was the first place I checked and nothing there besides meta+E.
Not really sure how to create the custom shortcut for this.
But I have always been able to shift-del???

It is related to the vconsole error. Solve that, and you solve your problem.
