Problems with an update

So here is the problem. Running sudo garuda-update installs these packages or tries to install them I should say.

After the update the booting and shutting down is very very slow. On booting the monitor goes on and off about 7 times. There are also some spots on boot screen. Once the system is logged in its running fine. Then the shutdown is also very very slow. I have had to use snapper to get back to normal. I’ve tried the update two times and both times are the same effect. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I love Garuda but I’m stuck with not being able to update anything at the moment.

Your BIOS is pretty out of date. You are missing a lot of stability improvements among other things like security fixes.
Considering this happened after a kernel update and what issues you are experiencing, I would update to the latest BIOS version.

Ok I’ll try that

Output of dmesg please?

How do I post all of that its a lot of stuff?

Upper right on forum page, too

In my terminal is show a few things in red. Also my terminal won’t let me scroll all the way to the top of it.

So a ran the update again and its doing the same things super slow boot

sudo dmesg had a lot more errors, also I did the bios update.

There was a lot of these errors:

[drm:nv_drm_atomic_commit [nvidia_drm]] *ERROR* [nvidia-drm] [GPU ID 0x00000a00] Flip event timeout on head 1

And from your garuda-inxi

That’s odd… All I can really think of is that there is some sort of new issue with the new kernel version with the parameter nvidia-drm.modeset=1 being on in an X11 session (at least with your specific setup).

Flipping doesn’t seem to be working right at all, so I would remove the specific kernel parameter and still stick with X11 Plasma sessions.
In the Garuda Boot Options program, you can remove nvidia-drm.modeset=1 from your kernel parameters, hit apply, and restart to see if that will fix you issue.
If that doesn’t seem to help, you can put that kernel parameter back in place and try a Wayland Plasma session which you can select on the login screen.

Should I update to the broken update before doing all of this or after? the system is still usable in it’s broken State just the booting and shutdown is painfully long

I would do that kernel parameter change before the update. Then after the reboot for it, garuda-update.

Or you can load a working snapshot (without this problem) and compare the kernel parameters with the current ones. If they are the same, you can rule that out as a reason.

Okay I removed that kernel parameter then I rebooted then I updated the system and I can confirm that seems to fix it. I’ve been using the x11 should I switch to the Wayland now? I don’t mind to keep using x11

Stick with X11 for now.
When KDE 6 becomes available in about a few months, you can try putting that kernel parameter back and trying Wayland (if you are interested in trying it out) since it will have better support by then.

Big thanks to everyone who helped sort this out for me I really appreciate it.:blush:
