Now that I think of it, did you add the parameter from the GRUB screen or in /etc/default/grub
?
And update-grub
afterwards (in the second case) right?
I added the parameter in the Garuda Boot Options grub screen. I did NOT run grub right after though!
Let me try and get back to ya
Forget, silly question of mine. The assistant does it.
This is by no means any type of solution, but for the 3 second delay opening the terminal I have a suggestion. Install Yakuake, it is a drop down terminal that you can activate by a key or by moving your mouse cursor to the top of your screen. Set Yakuake to start at login and you will not have that delay. Once you get used to a drop down terminal you can never go back to a regular one.
And as always test at least 3 alternate kernels. I would suggest testing the LTS, mainline, and linux-hardened kernels.
Recently on a KDE install I set up a meta+enter keyboard shortcut to open the terminal, and when I added it as an additional keybinding to open the default terminal it took about three seconds to launch.
I got rid of that and I made a new keyboard shortcut--same keybinding--but this time an application shortcut for Alacritty (instead of a system shortcut for the default terminal, which I have set to Alacritty anyway), and that one opens pretty much instantly.
I don't know why--KDE weirdness.
Hey I've used Yakuake before! I don't know why I didn't think to use that! I really liked that when I was testing Xero Linux one time. I'll download it!
I do actually have three installed! I have zen, hardened and lts. I've just yet to learn how to switch kernels. After this movie with the wife I'll jump on and see if I can figure it out and test the hardened kernel and see if that helps.
Am I fine using the nouveau graphics or would you recommend installing the NVIDIA drivers (random question I know, just thought maybe that's causing my system to break?)? Everytime I've installed Nvidia on one of my installs (and I mean EVERY time), it will not boot anymore, so idk which one to go with.
Hm, I'll give this a try. I do think the meta + enter is set to the default terminal instead of adding it as an application.
Stupid me... I spaced that I can select the kernel right from grub... Spent like 10 minutes searching online for it when I found a garuda post that mentioned selecting a different kernel from grub. I think that's enough Linux for me today. My brain is fried! Back to it tomorrow!
