Performance issues in the game phasmophobia

Hello everyone,

I wanted to ask if anyone here is currently playing the game phasmophobia on linux. I would love to completely remove windows from my system but right now this game is the only thing gatekeeping me from doing exactly that as the performance is very bad for me.

Regarding my problem:

Once I join the lobby, no matter if its singleplayer or multiplayer, I instantly get huge fps drops which leads the fps to permanently staying below 40 which shouldnt be the case with my setup. This makes the game completely unplayable for me and thus I have to boot into windows when I want to play the game.

Things I have tried so far:

  • Start the game with the launch command: gamemoderun mangohud %command%

  • Change the Proton version I have tested the following versions:

      GE-Proton7-20
    
      Proton Experimental
    
      Proton 7.0.6
    

Other than that I have also tried to start the game with x11 instead of wayland but that didnt help me at all.

I hope anyone hear can help me to figure out any solution to this.

Edit 2:
As clarification:
the update command tells me that the kernels are up to date but when I enter the inxi command it tells me i have .8 which is a bit weird

I checked through neofetch and lutris and they also tell me that .8 is installed so theres definitely something fishy going on. Do you know how I can fix this?

You probably just need to reboot. Your system doesn’t switch to an updated kernel automatically, you just stay on the old one until you reboot.

It looks like you are on Xorg, not Wayland:

Oh yeah sorry that one was my bad. After the reboot it shows the new kernel version.
Regarding wayland, when I do the initial login screen I have a dropdown where I can select X11 or wayland and I made sure to choose wayland but it still shows x11.

Did you install plasma-wayland-session?

What is the output of echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE?

sudo pacman -S plasma-wayland-session gives me the output that plasma wayland session is up to date and echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE gives the output wayland

I thought “Plasmaphobia” might be the “fear of running Plasma while everything transitions.” Apparently I’m wrong.
