Nvidia prime offload stopped working after garuda-update

Hello you wonderful people!
I have a problem...

After garuda-update, the gpu offload (prime-run) stopped working.
Here's what godot ( the game engine ) had to say about it ( and I mean the stable version of godot )

ERROR: GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY: There is not enough memory left to execute the command. The state of the GL is undefined.

Been fiddling with stuff, checked if my opengl support stuff's the same version as the driver, to no avail.

lspci says the driver in use is nvidia ( for the nvidia gpu )

Here's garuda-inxi without prime-run

My set-up should be in the above inxi(s)

Note: during garuda-update dkms complained that it don't know what sha512 is at line 1033 of /usr/bin/dkms (bash) which was

eval $sign_file sha512 $mok_signing_key $mok_certificate "$built_module"

Now, I thought, that couldn't have borked my drivers, right?

Here's the lspci for the nvidia device, and I am not certain why I have nouveau, nvidia-drm and nividia, cause I only remember having nvidia before update.

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation TU117M [GeForce GTX 1650 Mobile / Max-Q] (rev a1)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device 109f
        Kernel driver in use: nvidia
        Kernel modules: nouveau, nvidia_drm, nvidia

Please help me. I haven't found much online and I'm a bit tired of going to a previous snapshot just to be told "your system is out of date"

Hi there, welcome to the forum.
Was this from the very last update?
Because I see the system was not yet rebooted after that.

I did reboot after the first update, then I ran garuda-update again in hopes it does anything... but it didn't have anything to do (system already up to date) so I didn't reboot again.

ran garuda-update today, 10-ish minutes before posting

I got sha512: command not found errors when it was installing the nvidia driver into 5.18.8 as well (those errors did not happen with earlier kernels), but my nvidia card is still working.

Could it be a an issue with prime-run?
Cause, I mean, prime-run is the only way I have for using the nvidia-gpu via offloading, and from that godot error it seems like it may have issues with either opengl support or accessing / mapping memory.

I am not sure why and how tho. And at this point, understanding is not my goal. What I need is a fix.

I reverted to a previous snapshot before, today I was getting "your system is out of date" again so I decided "maybe someone fixed it in the meanwhile" and oh, boy, have I been wrong...

I am considering reverting again and not updating until the issue is resolved, however not having found any post about it, there's no way to check... well, there's my post now, I guess...

Unfortunately I don't have a fix, this seems to be a new issue. Maybe the game engine requires the signing to be done? I use prime-run too, but just to run games. I don't do game development, so I don't use engines directly.

I would say keep your system kernel and nvidia driver back for now so it works. Hopefully someone figures out a workaround or fixes it soon.

As far as I can see, prime-run is "only" this script

The only file in the nvidia-prime package, which isn't changed since a long time.
So the issue should be somewhere else in the updated packages.
Maybe try with a different kernel?

Was considering why on update dkms built nvidia against linux-headers and not linux-zen-headers ( and for some reason there were no linux-tkg-bmq headers in that list or none dkms knew about ).
I do have the tkg-bmq headers.

Could that have anything to do with it?

Could be...
I'm not so technically expert but that sounds strange.
Another reason to try a different kernel.

I just checked and I still have linux-headers 5.18.7 but linux-zen-headers 5.18.8.
Mine built against both zen and vanilla, one after the other and got the same errors on both. Not sure if that is the issue though.

I'll revert to a snapshot and investigate when I have more time and the necessary mood.

Feel free to either close this or let it die by itself unless someone with a solution comes along.

I considered using zen... but I am not very inclined to take the time to do that now.

Based on your inxi output, prime is working fine here and as intended. Are you sure this isn't a secondary issue related to the Nvidia driver or Godot directly?

Can you rebuipd modules and reboot?

sudo dkms install nvidia

That gave me an error and help output:

Signing key: /var/lib/dkms/mok.key
Public certificate (MOK): /var/lib/dkms/mok.pub
Error! Arguments <module> and <module-version> are not specified.

I added the version...

sudo dkms install nvidia/515.57
Module nvidia/515.57 already installed on kernel 5.18.8-zen1-1-zen (x86_64)

I had to remove then install it again.

Still got the sha512 errors.

I mean, if you really want to fix the sha512 errors (which, as a sidenote, SHOULD be completely unrelated to the issue you're having), can you try creating a symlink at /usr/bin/sha512 linked to /usr/bin/sha512sum?

I experienced that warning and found Module signing on Arch Linux · Issue #229 · dell/dkms · GitHub and /usr/sbin/dkms: line 1033: sha512: command not found. / Kernel & Hardware / Arch Linux Forums

EDIT: @jonathon: “The DKMS sha512 “error” message can be ignored, it’s just noise caused by there being no module signing.”

This will get rid of the message but not fix the problem, the sha512 is an argument for another command, it’s not supposed to be running sha512sum.
