Nvidia fix or reinstall and muti monitor

hi, id appreciate any help with my new garuda kde on new asus vivobook pro .
i did updates and reboots ... then did the garuda assistant nvidia proprietary driver wizard...but how can i tell if it is working and reinstall it or fix issues its having? thx

also when i plug in my qhd tv to laptop hdmi i get a popup to extend to right or left but nothing happens when i choose those and 'display and monitor' display configuration only shows me the built in screen. the same high speed hdmi cable and port does work fine with another laptop.

thanks in advance.

it seems like my 3060 is not working per nvidia-smi

sudo nvidia-smi

NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.

Are you using Wayland or Xorg? Nvidia is not quite kosher with Wayland fully, just fyi.

Also, have you used 'sudo nvidia-settings' and set your display options and created/saved an xorg.conf file? Not sure if you do this in Wayland though (I don't use Wayland.)

echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
x11

this did launch with sudo but im not sure what to do next. i fear i interupted the install copying some text during nvidia install which i thought was done and i hit ctrl c to copy but ooops that may have killed it before some final steps the installer was doing...? if so is there a way to reinstall it or should i try a snapshot from b4 ? or is there just some config steps to do still ?

sudo nvidia-settings

Run the following commands for me please:

  1. sudo pacman -S nvidia-dkms # Reinstall the nvidia driver. Reinstalling usually doesn't do anything on Linux, but this recompiles the nvidia-dkms module on purpose
  2. Reboot
  3. garuda-inxi

I need the full output of all these commands please, thank you!

i tried going back a few snapshots and reinstalling nvidia drivers but no luck and it hung before the desktop so i went back to an older snapshot again and did your first command again and noticed its referencing wayland

i really need to get this working and multi monitor support to use it for work
thanks in advance for the help!

If you are referencing 'egl-wayland-2:1.1.11-2', I have that installed as well and am using X11, and no, you should NOT be running Wayland if wanting to use Nvidia drivers and have a stable system. Did you reboot and try setting your nvidia settings via 'sudo nvidia-settings'?

12th Gen Intel Core i7-12650H
NVIDIA GA106M [GeForce RTX 3060 Mobile / Max-Q] driver: N/A

Do a system update with “garuda-update” and reboot. If nvidia-smi still reports error add ibt=off parameter.

good info thanks! good news, got the nvidia drivers installed and system rebooting ok.

whats the best advice to get hdmi working to my 4k tv monitor?
when i connect hdmi, nothing happens.

working nvidia driver steps are easy to do like this:
boot the installer (not with nvidia drivers), give it wifi before running the install....then restart.

u must go to Garuda Welcome > Garuda Boot Options and add:
ibt=off
to the end of the kernal parameters

1 update:
garuda-update

2 then reboot & snapshot, and get mhwd
sudo pacman -S mhwd

3 let mhwd get the right drivers for you
sudo mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300

4 reboot and check it
sudo nvidia-smi
