Hi
I need some help on this one please.

After update i keep getting stuck at Terminating Plymouth boot screen…

so i tried a different kernel - LTS - no
so i tried all snapshots - nothing worked
i tried a live USB - it works but after updating the system via chroot it still does not boot

back in LIVE USB now
Not sure how to proceed.

plymouth has not been part of Garuda Linux for a long time.

Try to uninstall plymouth.

That did not work.

Now I am stuck with a message about AMD overdrive ’ saying it is enabled ’ I have never enabled it, did not know it is even installed on this laptop…

You can ignore the message, the cause is something else. Did you repeat the garuda-update after uninstalling plymouth?

Yes i did.

Is it my boot settings - could they have been modified during an update?

The message comes from the amdgpu driver, regardless of whether OC is running or not. But if this is the last message you see, then this indicates that something is going wrong very early in the boot process. Possibly more went wrong with the update than plymouth. Can you post the pacman.log of the system update in question so we can see what was updated? And a journal of a failed boot would also be helpful. Have you tried reinstalling grub? Another option would be to try a garuda-update remote reinstall to reinstall all packages.

No i just updated GRUB

root=miso:LABEL=GARUDA_DR460NIZED_BROADWING quiet systemd.show_status=1 checksum=y driver=free
nouveau.modeset=1 i915.modeset=1 radeon.modeset=1

this line does not look correct to me ^^

These are the parameters of the live.iso and not of the installed system.

ahhh

This will reset a few configuration files like pacman.conf 🛑
Are you sure? (y/n)

that didnt work.

Are you saying I should have run that command (sudo update-grub)= again before exiting the chroot?

Or should not have run that command like that to begin with?

We use dracut, not mkinitcpio, by default.

i have used garuda for 4 years, and i have just updated and updated.

I guess a rolling distribution has its pitfalls.

That is now 2 packages that have been pointed out in this thread, that are installed by the system not me and when the update has come , the old stuff is not cleaned out because I am not an expert at linux.

** I see not much has changed,You guys are still the best on the internet at alienating a user in need of little help.

the log for pacman is too big to paste

Excerpt from the Garuda Wiki:

Longer terminal outputs can be pasted to our PrivateBin and linked to the thread to avoid making the post too long and messy.

I have decided after a week of no laptop, and four years of garuda, that my time is more valuable, and I will find a new solution (back to windows).

Thanks for the help.

Going back to Windows is a real step backward in my opinion.

A suboptimal workaround would be switching to Manjaro, whose minimal installation (3.5 GB) I’m currently testing. By setting Wayland as the default and installing my trusted kernel, Manjaro® is incredibly easy to maintain and a better alternative to Windows.

If I were in your situation, I would back up all relevant data and reinstall Garuda.

My recommendation: KDE-lite with the Catppuccin look

I knew your installation was older because I had checked your garuda-inxi from another thread of yours before I pointed out plymouth to you.

This statement is definitely wrong. My Garuda installation is even older than yours - everyone was asked to remove plymouth during the update back then. And the same goes for mkinitcpio, there was definitely a request to replace it with dracut. You obviously did not do either - this is a user error and not the fault of Garuda Linux.

And for that reason, your cynical rant against the Garuda community is more of an own goal - we’re just trying to help you.

Maybe it would make more sense to reinstall Garuda if you can’t fix it, or if Rolling Release doesn’t fit your use case to choose a static distribution - instead of opting for windows.

But for both cases you don’t need any further help in this topic, so I’ll close here. If you change your mind, just let us know and we’ll open this thread again.
Good luck.
