First, reboot please.

Done.
problem persists.

Iḿ considering just adding the mapping myself? but as I understand there is some kickass pre-configured terminal.

and we wants it... we needs it!

What type of keyboard do you have? Check that the super key "lock" is not enabled.

Where do I check that? never heard of that kind of lock.

plus when I press mod4+enter there is a sign itś trying to load something...

btw I just went thorugh the config of I3, it seems itś configured to use , alacritty, but alacritty was not installed from what I see...

What type of keyboard do you have?

It is a common feature. My understanding is hitting the super key while gaming on Windows can be problematic, so many keyboards allow the key to be locked so it isn’t triggered accidentally.

What is mod4?

I’m noticing your single quotes are coming up as accent marks. I’m wondering if you are using the right keymap for your device?

a pretty standard logitech one? with Hebrew and English.

No winlock on my keyboard so I dunno. never had that issue on any other distro

mod4 is what most people call the windows key on the keyboard

Try to install Alacritty and see what happens. Perhaps it was taken out of the ISO for some reason? I’m not sure to be honest, but I do recall testing another DE in the past and there was something that was expecting Alacritty but it wasn’t installed. :man_shrugging:

The other option that comes to mind would be changing the config to open xfce4-terminal instead of Alacritty if you would prefer to continue using that instead.

changig to hebrew locks me into a hebrew languege input.

win+space supposed to change input but is also set to change to floating window mode.

the keybinds overlap... where do i change switching input labguage?

I guess that depends on what input method framework you have decided to go with. If you can’t figure out how to change it, you could always change or comment out the meta+space shortcut in your i3 config.

The focus of this thread is wandering a bit. Have you made any progress with the original issue, opening Alacritty with meta+enter?

Isn't there a default terminal preconfitured?

IIRC super+t will launch a terminal (xfce4-terminal), and the last time I installed alacritty was not installed, though still configured for super+enter. I install terminator, so I didn't even give it a second thought.

I think SGS is the maintainer for i3-wm, hopefully he will see this and add alacritty back or change the skel config for super+enter.

EDIT: Confirmed, super+t is configured as above

Instresting... I am looking to spice my terminal up (Going with the all over the top theme of geruda...)

I'll look into terminator

Nothing to special about terminator anymore, just allows me to split one window for “quasi”-tiling, NOT tabs, and can be transparent. I used it before I switched to i3-wm though. There are probably newer terminals that do it with more flash and better now, I am just to old and lazy to look.

Hopefully, with the suggestions BluishHumility shared, my little blurp, you get where you want to be with the install.

And, welcome to the forum!

Edit: This just clicked

If you install a different termainal, you will want to configure the relevant setting to use /usr/bin/fish to get all the “extras”

I did not remove alacritty  , IIRC.
I change it now to xfce4-terminal.
