My external monitor becomes abnormally slow when I shut off my laptop screen

My system has been fine, spare the occasional hiccup here and there and garuda linux has been a delight, but I can't seem to switch to an external monitor without my system becoming disturbingly slow.

I frequently need just my external monitor lit because my feline companion will claim the space on my keyboard unless I have it tucked away while I use my bluetooth keyboard. I need to keep the lid closed on my device for that reason.

When I close my laptop, my external monitor remains lit as it should, but all of my icons, any animation I use slows down so much you'd think I'm on a pre-2000 era computer. It's not usable in this condition. If I am not on my external monitor or even have my laptop monitor and external monitor on simultaneously, it's fine.

I've tried downgrading my xorg-server to versions 1.20.4, 1.20.5, 1.20.6, 1.20.10, and 1.20.13 after reading a bit about a similar problem here:

It didn't seem to have much to do with external monitors, but I didn't see any harm in installing a few nvidia drivers:

sudo pacman -S nvidia-dkms nvidia-lts nvidia-prime nvidia-utils

I'm not finding any useful information on my specific issue, moreover I am still an Arch newcomer to be completely frank

Report everything you have already attempted to solve your problem.

First of all, the integrated graphics is in use, should be your 1650.

After reading some posts people say that closing the lid makes the laptop go in power saving mode so try disbling it also they say that some power saving thing is also in BIOS so check if it is so and try disabling.
